Oc Lines.

Does it work?
i know my strategy has probably been thought up time and time again, but being relatively new i wanted to

ok, the idea came to me whilst gorging and worrying about the effectiveness of my dc's and oc's. I wanted to have dc's in there an not be in the line of fire with as many oc's with the ability to see rines. So i put a row of oc's on the ground in front, a line of dc's behind it, oc's on top of them, then behind THAT another row of dc's. i didn't have nuff res for more chambers. Will that formation work?

okies, post any other chamber formation strategies you have. Feel free to be specific about strats for certain spots (ie oc's on the light fixtures in sewers on whatever map.)

^^ first post of mine on here. i hope i didn't screw it up. Now for some smily art:

but he was wrong.

oooh, tricked you on that one. Thought the rine thought he was safe but he really wasn't but then it turns out he really was and the skulk was the one who wasn't safe. i bet the onos is going to break through the turret and kill the rine. But will he be fast enough to get through before he dies? Does he have redemption so he will come back fast? Do i think redemption is a waste of res? *cough*yes*cough*

stay tuned for more of my epic smily miniseries. Soon to become a novel and then a movie which will not follow the original plotline at all.

btw, what does W.O.L. stand for? i bet it is relevant to my post and answers all my questions

It stands for Wall Of Lame.....back in the 1.0 days where all DCs could heal all objects, making them nigh on invincible. Of course, this doesn't happen anymore (3 DCs heal at a time) but the name still sticks

As for the formation you made....it's very good. Pretty much effective. However, you'll have to remember that you can only place 8 of the same structure at a location. Also keep in mind that sieges break them open like a shark does a crab

And finally, someone who makes use of the smilies to make a story....

    welcome to the forums.

Yes WOL stands for Wall of Lame, back before version 2.0 it was possible for a gorge to get insane res amounts and basically maps when aliens were doing well would be covered with WOLs. huges ones also, it difficult to get the res for them i find in 2.0.

The 3 Dcs healing thing ive hurd two different things.

1.) A chamber/Alien can only be healed at any one time by 3 DCs. (which is the standard that every one thinks)

    2.) A DC can only heal 3 chambers/aliens at a time.

any one know 100% exactly which of these is the correct one?

i thought it was 1 dc can heal up to 3 different players/buildings because if it is the other way round what is the point of adding more than 3 dc?
    any ways...

while it is efective at blocking the path it is expensive and they mariens will eather ignore it or siege it. both ways are not going to get you many kills (more kills more rfk).

a better/cheaper way is to build in a corner. drop a dc in a corner then 3 oc at a 45* to the walls add oc on top of the dc. round the corner have two more oc. this set up suckers in mariens that think "there are only a few oc here ill just run through". also the main dc "body" should be near by but not block the oc line of site. i hate it when i drop a few oc and someone builds a dc right behind them. it makes it imposable for the oc to fire behind the WoL.

you can arange the oc in such a way to have all oc fire on target at the same time or set them up inside a room lined up against the wall (known as reverse wol).

i to used to build massive wol but it is to costly both in rez and in time. it is better to have small consentrasions of oc (no more than 4 unless it is a key area) and then have 1 here and there through out the map. the small wol will help the early game and later a few oc on the path to hives will help kill jp'ers.

other than siege the biggest reson not to poor all your rez into a big WoL is if/when the mariens get HA or GL no WoL will stand up to them.

also do not hide behind your WoL. get out to the side and spit at them. if you hide you may get jumped and killed, if you fight it is 1 more thing shooting back at them (remember to move around and jump or your toast).

if you call for help your team should come running.

look at the map (hold the "c" button and there is a map. i swear i say that every night) and see where your team is. from this you can see where it is safe to go.

redem is a good choice for beginers as spit takes time to move down range and hit a target (its part leading the target part luck).
later you can use carpase dobbles your armor. great for killing rambo.

i dont get regen because im a gorge i can just drop a dc to heal. same with cloaking. why get cloaking when i can just drop a sc. adren same deal why get adren when i can just drop a mc (also with an mc if i need to get away, there it is, hit the use button and im gone).

droping an mc is a good way to take down marien rts (at 2 hives). the mc will help you take down the rt faster and if the mariens come to save it you can get away useing the mc.

mc is also good to have at a forward WoL so if you or anyone needs to get away from the front to heal or save a hive there it is, a nice mc (also helps you spit/heal more).

there is more but its nearly 6am hear....

hope this helps. if not keep asking questions.

lol, the reason i bothered to ask if my strat would work was becausei kinda put it in a stupid place and it got sieged (between the two weldable doors on tanith i think, the one where the hives are generator, ventilation and sewer)

    the epic story continues.

that would be ns_Caged and the entrance to vent hive, usually rines attempt to relocate to Central Processing (double res) on caged and with good reason!

unfortunatley laming between th 2 doors isnt going to achieve much, the OCs cant shoot throughthe welded door, and its easy for the commander to just build a single siege in Double to getrid of it.

This one, I believe, is the correct statement. I'm fairly certain that eight defense chambers have healed me faster than three. Also, I recall an incident in which numerous aliens were hiding in a ping-of-death shelter, and I tried to join them. Despite being within range of the same number of defense chambers as them, I died, whereas they continued to live.

ZONES of lame are like walls, only not built high.

Zones of lame are exceptionally evil, usually spread out, and harder to kill off since they're not clustered. Also, they encourage marines to "try and run through" as opposed to the siege/shotty/gl response a WOL will get.

I miss gorge resflow from 1.04. Sure the n00bs who went gorge for onos were hell but these days if noone bothered to build RTs and I am locked in by rine bases its hell to get the res I need.

WOLs are still fun but not worth the res anymore. yet it indeed was cool to see those WOLs. Imagine... backin those days they did not even cloak. But still you had them.

In a game where it matters you're not going to have enough res for ten thousand chambers. There's only two reasons i usually build ocs:

    1) to protect a hive from getting shot at.

    2) to protect a rt from getting knifed.

For #1 the first thing I do is go to the entrances to the hives and use line of sight to figure out how far back a marine can be and still shoot the hive. Then I put an oc within range of that spot, hidden as much as possible from main hallways. If I have res I will then place an oc behind it perpindicular to the line between the first oc and the hive (so if they run past the first oc they get hit by the second with a large arc of fire).

For #2 I put two ocs on opposite sides of the rt as hidden as possible in corners so that their arc of fire is as restricted to the actual rt as possible.

    Some notes:

All alien structures heal themselves. Unless you have 4 or more dcs the effect of healing on the ocs will not matter in the short run. It won't really increase the amount of bullets that it takes to kill the oc. This means it's essentially pointless to build walls of lame unless you're overflowing with res (ie at the alien endgame). And in point of fact the only time I ever build walls of lame is to protect a mass of dcs that I'm using to attack a marine base and heal.

It takes at maximum around 2 and 1/2 clips of LMG to kill an oc. That's insignificant, but it is about 30 seconds of work. That means you get about 30 seconds of warning to get to an area and kill the marine off. Chances are, especially in 3.0 with the low low marine armor, that marines will try to clear ocs out instead of bypassing them because they would rather lose ammo than armor. And even if they try to bypass them there's another one waiting right after it .

This information obviously means that ocs are best used as warning devices, but they're expensive (four ocs plus the res to gorge = the res to fade), so use them only in important areas like the hive. The second best job that an oc does is to slow the marines down. A shotty rush will stop outside the hive until the ocs are cleared out, giving you time to get everyone there, etc.

WOL's are only good to deny marines areas of the map, and dont work well against jp/HA. they dont work for areas that there is more then one way in.

there is some sort of max on how much a single creature can be healed, but it seems I heal faster under the hive with 3 dc's and regen then if i only have one of those. doesnt seem to heal faster with 4 DC's vs 3, but what do i know? maybe its both 1 and 2. 1 dc can only heal 3 objects AND an object can only be healed by 3dc's?

Always remember that an OC is for slowing down marines not killing them outright.

An OC will do fine against a single marine but two or more marines means your wall will be slowly picked apart.

I find OC's are best used in ambush.

Place 1 either side of a doorway so that a marine can't see them until he's in the room.

Also Place single OC's in forward positions so a marine will be tempted to run by it. Then place 2/3 OC's round the corner so he runs to his death. This works especially well when you have access to SC.

Is what the MANUAL says... but thats well out of date. Still, its the interpretation I believe is true.
