Question On Cooling

AMD cooling suggestions
Okay so I need a good fan for my processor, I was looking at a thermaltake 11 or somethin around there (I have a XP1800 but I live in Arizona so I need to stay cool on my system) but what would you guys suggest I get? Usual house temp varies, if the a/c is working the room my computer is in gets to about 80 max, if it's broke it gets almost up to 130-140 in the house (thats when the computer shuts down) but I need something that won't cause my computer to change the temperature in the house..... so what kinda processor fan would you suggest? I just switched cases have all rounded cables side panel fan that does about 32cfm and the rear exhaust fans do the same so does the exhaust on the power supply but the processor fan is a thermaltake volcano 6 and it doesn't seem to be able to do the job all the time. So if this made since can someone direct me in which way to buy a processor fan?

buy a solid copper one, ignore brands, my solid copper one produced 10degree C lower temperatures than my coolermaster.

Definatly copper, however the ones that ship with the cpu should work just fine. Thermaltake (sp) Volcanos are great if you don't mind the leaf blower

okay so this sounds silly even tho you said ignore the brands, I'm to lazy to go to the store so I do it online, what kinda fan do you use on your processor? names would be good just so I can look at stuff instead of having to search, because I'm impatient about stuff like that

yeah this processor originally came with a Volcano 7+ but I traded it to a guy for some uhhh stuff... at that time yeah anywho so I was reading but a lot of the thermaltakes have coper bases for them, but I did notice that the 7 when it ran was very very noisy (oh and a pain in my butt to get off the board)

AMD 1800+ (but temperate climate), plus a 90mm side fan blowing onto m/b and another 90mm exhausting below the power unit. I have the volcano 7+ but have it set to medium. It is still quite noisy though. You know there a three speed settings with the 7+? Noisy - Loud - Quiet

How about a copper Zalman type cooler but with a larger fan attached?

My thermaltake is good at keeping my processor cooled. I think it is a Thermaltake Xaser 11 or some such model.

See it in there?

But it sounds like a jet engine. That is why they are named thermalTAKE... it takes away any peace and quiet.

you think thats bad. I have 5, 5 inch fans in my Box and a 4 incher on the CPU, than the 2 incher on the GFX card. Not to mention the Power fan.

1 is on the Processor
1 aimed at the Processor
1 is aimed at the CD-RW/DVD roms
1 is aimed across the MB
1 is out the front
1 is out the back
1 is on the GFX card
1 is for the Power

When this thing starts up it sounds like a Jet is taking off under my desk!
Did I go Overkill? YES, for sure. Does my computer ever get even a bit too warm? NEVER!

lol likewise, but I achive it with a black case (increased radiation,) made of aluminium (increased conduction,) and a few well placed fans, (blowing air out at one location and in at another.)

Just to round it off, they are slow spinning but large diameter, resulting in increased airflow with less noise.

I would also recomend large copper heatsinks. My Zallman does not even need the fan, and runs bellow 30degC constantly. However, from your (Bobby-0's,) description of your room temp, you may need something more. A methonal-based heat pipe would be ideal, but the most expesnive. Possibly a water-based one instead? Still pretty fancy.

And 2of12, Nice case! Are those heatsinks I see on the RAM?!?! Pitty about the mass of D-splitters. Tidy it up man!

Yes my ram has heatsinks ehehehe.

I know it's messy, I haven't sat around and really tried to tidy up the wires. I think I will soon because it is almost time for my monthly disassembly/cleaning.

Swiftech heatsinks are quite nice. They don't always come with a fan attached though. You'll need to obtain your own fan for it. Not a bad idea as you can get exactly what you want.

If you've got motherboard mounting holes you could use a zalman cnps7000(the aluminum and copper version is probably best if you have a processor with a bare core since the all copper one wheighs ~750 g)

The point all these fools are trying to make is, that its not just your cpu fan that keeps your computer cool, Its the whole setup.
You were looking at the TT Volcano 11+, Well the XaserIII case comes with 7 ultra quiet system fans.
I have a Volcano 11+ and i always have it running at min speed in my Xaser III case.
Makes no noise and runs at 56degrees. Or noisy like 20 deg

actually thats exactly how my case looks minus the thermaltake 11 on it, that and my side panel has spiderman in it not a X :/ but yeah that and what the guy before you suggested seem like my best bet, can't really go watercooled at the moment just because my flow of cash wouldn't like that, and neither would my bike :| I think I'll look into the 11 does that have the copper sink on it? I'd post a picture of my case but ahem it'd take a while to develop the photos

oh another thing I do need is a new fan for my video card, I was looking at the thermaltake orb thingie for the GeForce line but not to sure because I've never HAD to buy a new fan for my video cards usually replaced the cards before that happened....

But yes thanks for all the info, and I think I'm happy with my setup the only thing I want next other then the cooling is two 512 of ram so I can have a gig there for doin some of my graphic work at least till I upgrade my mac. but thats a whole differnt story

btw 2of12 I like your setup

Holy Jebus thats messy!!! but yeah I see the point I have 6 fans running right now and two more slots open on my case eventually I'm gonna set it up so the front is intake the side is intake and the rear will be all the exhaust, well the rear is done completely but the front needs one more intake fan :/

lol, I was joking about my rig. I've got a cheap **** Tsunami case which I cut out a hole for a side fan blowing onto the graphics card and an exhaust fan sucking out below the psu.

I know you must be aware of this but the very best air cooling can do is keep your pc at room temperature

Athlon XP's have quite a small core so their power output per transistor is quite large, i.e. they aren't that easy to cool even though they use less power then most pentium 4's.

If it makes you feel better, you can interpret that as AMD uses it's transistors more efficiently and not lets them sit idle.

Yeah Bobby-0, I do have the 1800+. A snap at ?60. Still, does thte job. With modern GPUs, even a 1Gig jobby will suffice. However, ig you are in to mass number crunching, (image/video editting, brute force password cracking, etc.) then a slightly more niffty processor becomes necessary.

I have a buddy who had the greatest Idea ever he sealed out his case and cut a hole into the side, he than cut a hole in the other side.

He took small section of central Vac hose, that reached to the outlet.
It has a switch on it to turn it on and off, which he wired into the CPU fan.

When he turns on his computer the Central Vac turns on and his computer stays not only cool (major section from the vac) but dust free due to the fact its a central vac.

Well, first of all, on my laptop, there is two holes, one where the air is sucked in, and one where the air is sucked out. The fan is on the side where air is sucked in, to assist in bringing cool air. Then the air is pushed out of the un-modified (so far... ^_^) air duct.

And, no, I (sadly) run WinXP. I just don't like the basic WinXP style, and am still modifying my current project (in case some people who have actually taken interest in it <see below img link>). Plus I like teh old skewl style.
