<div class="IPBDescription">3d fantasy art knife</div> hi there, im working on a 3d model of a fantasy style knife. im still MAYA noob and this is my first project done all alone.

i drew a concept sketch, u can see it here: <a href='http://mitglied.lycos.de/jumpingjoda/messer-vorlage-copy.gif' target='_blank'>click</a>
im not done with it yet, but weekend should be enought to do it
im sorry for the stupid watermarks on the images, im using maya personal learning edition, and it makes such things on rendered images.
for people who would like to know: im doing it with polygon objects, extending the faces.

i also made a longsword version of the knife, becouse everybody thought the blade was too short, and my brother told this to me also... so here it is
pic1 longsword: <a href='http://mitglied.lycos.de/jumpingjoda/knife-stage3-1.jpg' target='_blank'>click</a>
pic2 longsword: <a href='http://mitglied.lycos.de/jumpingjoda/knife-stage3-3.jpg' target='_blank'>click</a>

i will not finish this becouse i cant do textures XD
if anyone is interested in it i can give u some file for skining, pm me for that

i would like to hear ur comments, critics, and of course some tips !!!! <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

It's a bit blurry, but maybe that's just me. Looks good so far, but the blade should be a little longer.

Nice for your first project, but you shouldn't use meshsmoothing (or whatever it's called in maya) yet until you have mastered it. Yeah, I know flatshaded model looks kinda hmm.. special, but it really shows the model's real shape. As of now, I really can't give any constructive criticism, since I can see nothing but the general shape.
This is still a good model for a first project! I remember myself using meshsmooth in every possible occasion at first <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

EDIT: The blade size is just fine. This was supposed to be a knife/dagger afterall.

    jep, size is ok
i made also a handle (or whatever the thing is called wehere u hold it XD) but i didnt like it

hmm yeah i also thought about doing it without smoothing, just need to make edges sharper and add some edges to the blade, that should do it
only prob is the skull that looks a bit weird without smoothing, il try to fix that

    its me again
i think its tieme for an update

changes are pretty good to see, and i think it looks much better now without all that smoothing (i fixed the skull)
    its all low polygon now
i added many details, and fixed some bad looking things

Looks pretty good for a begginer/novice I like

    (The *Handle* is known as a Hilt <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo--> <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo--> )

its a bit low quality becouse:
    .) it has no textures
.) it is on prewiev rendering
.) it only got 1 light

il try to do all by myself, well lets see how far i get

Luckily there's people like me that don't care if it goes or not.

Awesome, but the handle's to thick, and the blade's a little short as said... Look's like it's suffering from OoT Master Sword Syndrome.

it is not a short sword its a knife, A KNIFE people ^^

i will add some detail to the hilt, so it will appear more "handy" and not so slippy like now

"omg!, i cant hold my knaif, its sliping meh away!!11!!1one!1"
