You called your own opinions the "truth," but his opinion an opinion. When it comes to games you like and dislike, there are no truths. It may be true that you enjoyed the game, as did most of the people who played it, but there are no truths, only opinions.
That said, there are a lot of nice strategies you can bring into play in RTS games, but mostly against the computer. Warcraft III started on the right path by setting "Upkeeps," thus hindering anyone planning an early tank rush, but even that will relegate into more of the same. I never enjoyed playing any RTS games online mainly for this reason, although I will confess I have not played that many. My experience is small, and my opinions are still malleable. Hopefully a RTS game with a FPS front-end will change all that for me...
Basically, we are all here because we love NS's potential, and, hopefully, the game itself, when it is here. We may disagree, and based on past posts here, probably will. But the important part is to settle the disagreements as maturely as possible. Not singling any one person out, this should apply to everyone stepping into the community...
And so, how about that NS?

No no no... I never said I 'liked' SC and AOK and hammer him for 'not liking' them. I said they we're great games. Look at reviews. All high scores. Look at how many people bought the games. Look how many people still play the games. If he doesn't enjoy it, that's fine. Just don't come down on the game like it's bad, when it's not. He just didn't know the depth behind what he had already played. I informed him, and with my poor word choice, I guess, I'm paying the price. Sorry.
But will NS be better (more fun) than those games? I sure hope so! And all signs point to 'yes'. <!--emo&:)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'><!--endemo-->

Despite the fact that it's still a tank rush (and vober hit the nail on the head with his description), it's a very well designed game. Still, all the berthas in the world will not destroy an enemy's base totally and completely. Essentially the terrain in Total Annihilation always provides some sort of cover for your base. The map "Welcome to Core Prime" on the Arm campaign is an excellent example of this. Build all the berthas you want, but they're not going to totally destroy that base because of all the huge metal walls. Ever heard of a "mass brawler rush"? That's when you build about a million brawlers (assuming you're the arm) and send them at the enemys base. Wow, sounds like a tank rush to me, only with air units. Theyre's no way to defend against a brawler force of sufficient magnitude (unless you've got a special units pack like TAUIP). Also, if you're playing with the Core Contengincy installed, Krogoth is the name of the game. If you get more Krogoths than the other guy, you win. Period. Berthas don't help, not even the buzzsaw or vulcan cannons (which are rapid-fire berthas) can take down a krogoth rush. It's a tank rush game at heart, it just takes some time to get there sometimes. Nukes are pretty useless in TA as well, since the time it takes to build about a million anti-nukes is the time it takes to build like half of a nuke. In a good game of TA, bases are almost immediately fortified with all manner of anti-nuclear capability.<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span id='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd--> Hahaha. Krogoth rush. Hahaha. That doesn't work dude. They take waaaaaaaay too long to build.
Your comments on other games are spot on though. Especially about Starcraft being a piece of crap <!--emo&:p--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':p'><!--endemo-->

That's enough of this one. Far be it for someone to actually explain a different opinion from your own. Try harder next time guys.
