<div class="IPBDescription"> a quick question</div> Heya all,

I was just wondering, what in your experience is the best web site designing program for Linux?

At the moment, I've been using vi, which is okay for the basic stuff, but almost impossible when it comes to things like lining-up tables

Thanx!

A simple text editor. If you can't use a simple text editor to make your page, it's not "web design", it's "tell a program what you want and have it design the website for you".

    cforrester.. I know

All my pages so far are written using a text editor

But aligning framesets and tables in pure HTML is pure tedium

You'll get used to it once you've done it a few times.

    Hmm

It really is boring messing around with table positions + stuff

On the other hand, my hand-coded index.htm is 1/2 the size of the Macromedia one - exact same content

I usually use a mix of Dreamweaver and notepad these days. You can preach to me all you like that the "proper" way of doing web design is througha text editor, but it takes twice as long with the same results.

So i knock up the basic layout using Dreamweaver then manually edit to optimise the html.
