I downloaded and tried to use the HL logocreator by a Mr Robster, but i cant get it work!

I dont have any extencive knowledge regarding the Pldecal-file, so the FAQ didnt give me much help:
<i>
"Q: Wat is a Pldecal.wad?
A: Uninstall this program... NOW!"</i>

is there a way i can make a spray in paintshop?

    Rather than type out a long explanation, I'll direct you <a href='http://www.planethalflife.com/wss/' target='_blank'>here</a>. Have a look in the tutorial section. That's where I learned.

    you will need to save the pldecal.wad in the ns/logo folder. there should be one there.

    Make sure you make the file read only (right click --> properties, choose "General" tab, check "read only")

    I have made a simple bmp wich i format in the program, and it makes a wad file wich i put in the logos folder. but still no spray <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->. All i get is the stock skull spray.

    Once you've converted it to a Pldecal.wad (i recommend using Wally for this) place the file into your XXX\Half-life\NS folder

    Run the game and DO NOT GO INTO CUSTOMISE EVER AGAIN OTHERWISE YOU'LL LOSE YOUR SPRAY AND HAVE TO PLACE THE WAD BACK IN!

    Should work <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

    so let me get it straight: the .wad file is a compressed file containing one single image file?
  • JimmehJimmeh Join Date: 2003-08-24 Member: 20173Members, Constellation
    How do i put this...

    *.wad is a storage format used for images, and commonly used in maps in HL

    Pldecal.wad is a file containg a image (within specification, certain rules apply) and is used for sprays

    Normal *.wad files (like for maps) can contain an unlimited amount of images AFAIK, however Pldecal.wad can only contain one otherwise it doesnt work

    A wad is a storage file. Originally they were invented by iD, and it stands for "Where's All the Data?". Half-Life is originally based on Quake, so it's inherited them.

    Half-Life's .wads are a little different from the original in that they ONLY contain textures. Textures are basically images which have been specially prepared so that they can be loaded into the game. wads are not limited to one texture (image); if you have a rummage in your ...\HalfLife\valve\ folder you'll find halflife.wad, xeno.wad, liquids.wad and a few others - they contain the textures for the whole game. As in, the images used to make the walls in the levels look like they do.

    There, wasn't that interesting? <!--emo&::nerdy::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/nerd.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='nerd.gif'><!--endemo-->

    I found it interesting. I finally got my recruitment poster working. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
    Even if it looks somewhat worse at 118*96 in 8bit colour. ah well.

    Not a bad start IMO. <!--emo&::nerdy::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/nerd.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='nerd.gif'><!--endemo-->

    (actually, that wouldn't be a bad idea for a custom spray <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->)

    after you've converted it to a Pldecal.wad and placed it in your XXX\Half-life\NS folder right click on the pldecal.wad file and make the file READ-ONLY.

    That way you will never lose your spray

    I made a fun little decoy spray today, but I'm still working on it:

    <b>Edit:</b> Used to have a picture here but I removed it from my image host.

    Hey guys, go and search out a proggy called 'wally' and use its half-life color decal wizard.
    I use it and make sprays real nice, you can't even see the outlines on transparents because i do such touchup work.

    As for decoys, mine is of the chick from danger girl in a bikini setup trimming her nails with a rambo knife... very distracting indeed.
