How Long Do You Think The Forums/site Wil Be Down?

<div class="IPBDescription">When 3.0 comes out?</div> Just a small question to the general community, About how long do you think the site and/or forums will be down when 3.0 is released?

Remember back when 2.0 was released? What, was it arouund two weeks, before the main site came back up?

And NS has only gotten larger. My estimate is probably around 2 or 3 weeks <!--emo&::asrifle::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/asrifle.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='asrifle.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Um....I don't know if it will be down at all. It seems likely, but it probably won't happen. If it will, I predict maybe two-three hours after the release.

    Well, 2.0 release killed it for a while. And if NS shows up on the Steam menu for everyone like it should with the release of 3.0.... the first time zone it turns the date of release till the end of the day, this site, at least the forums will be shut down <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

    I imagine it will be substantially less time than for 2.0... After all, isn't NS going to be a full-on, full-fledged Steam "app"? In that case, wouldn't it be distributed over Valve Content Servers? It seems that NS.org would have a lot smaller purpose, if any, as far as distribution goes.

    Forums, however... Bleh, I can't see any easy way to predict anything for 'em.

    i say 3 years. a big plane will crash into the servers and then when they get the insurance money and buy another, a metoir will fall out of the sky and break that and flary will be like omgomgomgogm wth is going on and then he will join the circus and microsoft will buy ns and make it exactly like cs and put it on xbox and then satan will come to earth and walk up to bill gates and go oh, youre working here? ok ill go somewhere else and we will all cry. but thats just my 2 cents.

    The site won't be down quite as much as usual... people will hit the site once, turn on steam, and begin the battles. There won't be a huge rush to the page for a download. Of course, steam's tech support page, on the other hand...

    When 2.0 came out they were only down for 2 days I think. So, 3.0 should be the same.

    Hmm, good point, I can't remember fo' sure either way. Though, in the end, like I said, unless they plan on offering an executable version, for people who have "issues" with the content servers, I imagine Steam distribution will stop any major problems.

    Actually, the FAQ page of Steam is quite helpful. The <i>forum</i> on the other hand, is a piece of unregulated CR**. Seriously, there are threads called 'Steam Sux' in bold font that remain unlocked. Sad.

    Maybe a couple of hours before the release but none after that. The team learned their lesson from 2.0, they wont make it again.

    It really can't be foretold. Depending on the amount of previous PR that's being done, we'll either get lots of new faces in one big hit, or a slow increase over a longer period of time - in case of the first, I'd assume that we'll be at least forced to take a 48 hours break with the forums.
