Nice picture of Mars btw!
They'll see a shadow then static and then go WTH?
We need to hurry up and send some people over there, we gotta leave some golf balls and flags on that planet too ! <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->
(you can see it in the top left going across the screen if you look at the really big 9mb pic)
Exploration pwns. Interplanetary exploration <i>really</i> pwns.

The largest is like 1,000,000 x 1,000,000 or something.. some guy stitched hundreds of pics together of a landscape to make one huge pic.
Looks like the NASA stitching job is a bit sloppy in places, but that is still an awsome pic.. is that pic updated as they get more? it looks like it's imcomplete like it could be.

Tastelicious!
I want red tint <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->
like was it taken from the edge of a cliff? or is it like.. on ground level? like scale or anything?
But, very awesome, although I honestly can't imagine the whole planet being like that.
Seriously folks, I just flew in from Mars, and BOY, are my arms tired! I saw the British probe on the way back. It could take some advice from ET, folks; it's gotta phone home! <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
No, no, see, I'm just kidding. The British are great. I mean, someday they'll do something right, and BAM then it'll be in our faces like jam on scones. At least they didn't spend billions on their lander like we did. Guess it shows, though. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
So, what's up with Cydonia? I played X-COM and all that, and I'm waiting for a live feed so we can see what those Ethereals do to our probe. I totally believe in life on Mars. I'm an animal rights activist, folks, and even rocks have feelings. Just look at that picture, rocks everywhere folks! If that ain't life, tell me what is!
ns_hera's on Mars, ain't it? Why aren't we checking out that place? We could say hi to the TSA! Let's have a round of applause for those brave Trans-Sector Authority marines right now, huh? *APPLAUSE*
Yeah, that's great. I had a cousin in the TSA. He was a transfer: in fact, he was a parasite from a skulk! <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
Seriously, what's NASA spending it's budget on? We don't have LMGs or HMGs, and I don't see any nanotechnology. If they want to compete for funding with the TSA, they'd better get those mini nukes working! <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
You've been great, just great. Catch me tommorrow, when I ridicule the Hubble!
On topic, though, I don't care much for interplanetary exploration unless we're sending humans.
So, want a nifty background paper?

Pictures like this let the rest of us know it's worth it spending billions to go out there; who <i>knows</i> what else is there.
btw nasa is planning to send people to mars ~2015 because that is when it is closest
11 more years...
i saw it on the discovery channel so <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo--> and if you dont believe me my gorge will do a little jiggle with his/her/it's hips so <!--emo&::gorge::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/pudgy.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='pudgy.gif'><!--endemo--> <!--emo&::gorge::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/pudgy.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='pudgy.gif'><!--endemo--> <!--emo&::gorge::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/pudgy.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='pudgy.gif'><!--endemo--> <!--emo&::gorge::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/pudgy.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='pudgy.gif'><!--endemo-->

Edit: wow first post in like 4 months... hi monse!!! long time no lovin
But, very awesome, although I honestly can't imagine the whole planet being like that. <!--QuoteEnd--> </td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'> <!--QuoteEEnd-->
Its not... This area being photographed is very flatt and I suppose Nasa did purposely to play it safe since the last trip got screwed over. There are huge volcanoes on Mars, one being Olympus Mons which is approx 3 times taller than mount everest and its circumference is approx the distance of the southern border of california to san francisco.
<img src='http://hyperphysics.phy-astr.gsu.edu/hbase/solar/picsol/olymon.jpg' border='0' alt='user posted image'>
There is also Mariner Valley. A mars equivalent to the grand canyon, only it is much much bigger. Streching over 2000 miles and the greatest depth of 5 miles! the grand canyons deepest area is only 1.5 miles deep.
<img src='http://observe.arc.nasa.gov/nasa/ootw/1997/ootw_970101/vo1_078_1.jpg' border='0' alt='user posted image'>
in conclusion: mars is cool
