Map Updates?

devicenulldevicenull Join Date: 2003-04-30 Member: 15967Members, NS2 Playtester, Squad Five Blue
I see in the changelog that veil was updated, but I don't see any of the other maps
Like caged and the various onos problems
Hera and the siege 2 hives from processing

Are these fixed and not in the changelog? Or have the maps not been resubmitted?

I know Tanith has been changed.
I also saw in a thread KungFuSquirrel promised to do something with the elevators in ns_nothing and possible a new maintenace hive in ns_eclipse

I heard that you can no longer seige ns_veil's double res from marine start.

It was in the changelog many many builds ago, but I've seen it done in 2.1/3.0 still.

The map with furnace and biodome, there needs to be another exit from furnace that onos can get through

And I thought furnace had two exitst...one from the "ladders" and one from the "rock formation".

Yeah but from the "rock formation" you cant get anywhere. It leads to Ore Extraction, which has 3 vents, and each of them are too small for an onos to fit in. Although 1 vent leads to dbl res and its high enough for onos but then you just see even more vents <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->
nah furnace is 1-way exit/entrance for onos.

LOL onos crawling through vents - THAT is funny and unatmospheric. But then again, as cheesy as onos going up ladders...

so is ventelation > dbl ladders, and so is biodome, whats your point?
  • SwiftspearSwiftspear Custim tital Join Date: 2003-10-29 Member: 22097Members
The point is that there is no way for an onos to get inbeween the other 2 hives and furnace without going through either marine start, or double res making furnace nearly untakeable if the rines take furnace and then bunker down double and start (which is a VERY common stratagy on any map for other inherant reasons). It also makes your hive network impossible to defend if you start in furnace and rines get double.

New maintanance?? AGAIN? Weird. They totally re-did it in 2.0, what's on their mind now to change?
  • Roger_DodgerRoger_Dodger Join Date: 2003-03-11 Member: 14392Members
I have to agree onos have it way too hard in ns_origin especially when aliens have vent and rines have double. Well at least with the next version onos wont have as much trouble getting out of vent via Dbl as they wont fall backwards if they dont time crouch anymore to get off the ladder. Bodgy anti onos ladders was a HMGers best friend.

And if you mined the top of the ladders insta gib onos.

MC is a definate for that map. I usually get flamed for MC first on that map but people understand in the end and it breaks the monotony of DMS.

I got trapped in funace once with a heavy train outside. I had to beg a gorge to build me a movement chamber so i could escape.

Biodome hive is also, without a doubt, the worst designed hive ever. The elevators just sing Fish-In-A-Barrel-Time. God help you if the marines relocate in there, you'll have one hell of a hard time getting in there with anything bigger then a lerk.

It's pretty freaking hard to defend as well sometimes. The only good thing about it is you can send the elevators up and escape through the vents underneath them. Though that can hardly be called good.
  • Roger_DodgerRoger_Dodger Join Date: 2003-03-11 Member: 14392Members
Yeh but the thing is if they do relocate there aliens can lock em in nice and tight. And if they build too close to the elevators you can Bile bomb them quite easily.

But i must agree fish-in-a-barrel does sorta pop into your head when your in it.

Not to rain on anyones parade here, but this merely means that the new nancy will be in the next testbuild, not necessarily in the final 3.0. It's of course possible, but let's just don't get our hopes up.

Hera is a real trouble map for me. If they don't fix the major problems in the map like double sieging from processing, or the incredibly annoying vent hive layout, i don't see its popularity exactly soaring. I find it baffling that bast's source file was lost after nancy's was. You would think there would have taken more precautions ( ms needs a serious rethink ).
