Quick question about the readyroom.

In ChromeAngel's NS Mapping Guide, this is written about r_speed restrictions:

<i>"The only exception to this [r_speed limit] guideline is the RR, where you can go mad with the details as performance is not an issue there."</i>

Is this still the case? I'm suddenly very excited... <!--emo&;)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=';)'><!--endemo-->

    There will be no combat in the readyroom, ever. Thus, you don't need as much framerate as you do in major choke points, so you can add a bit more detail than you would in the rest of the map.

    I feel like I should mention that the r_speeds in the ready room are definitely not unlimited.  They can be higher then the gameplay areas sure, but not really high.

    Don't forget that most players will be visible on screen when a player is in the ready room, because all players will be moved back to it after the previous game ends.  The fact that this many players are on screen at once (about 1000 polys per player) probably means that r_speeds in the ready room shouldn't exceed 700 or so.

    Of course, there are workarounds to this.  If you want, you can make your readyroom a bit smaller, and then just make multiple "copies" of it.  This way, the total number of players in it at the same time will be less.  Also, not all players will connect to the server at the same time, and as wonderful as the readyrooms may end up being, most players won't be in them admiring the detail unless they're playing alone.  I'd say that, on a full 16 person server, the number of people in the readyroom (if there's only one) at any one time will not go over eight or ten.  Maybe.

    Silly question - how will players appear to other players in the readyroom thingy?

    After all, they haven't decided whether they're aliens or marines yet...

    I believe they retain their 'bodies' form the last game played.  I expect they will be randomly asssigned the first time around.

    I think that making multiple copies of the ready room would be counter-productive, as the main purpose of the ready room is a social/break area, and a way to coordinate team choices, not to mention that it starts the game with a shared experience that can help set the theme of the game.

    So what will the player model be for those who are waiting in the ready room before they choose their team?

    What are you talking about? That's so freaky it should be the level 5 model! <!--emo&:D--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':D'><!--endemo-->
