who doesnt like this lmg. it looks cool, isnt very heavy so u can carry a coke too, and hey! it has a scope.

and its sound....

but u know dod??? the new para maps??? where the axis can choose the weapons??? theres the fg42. a light machine gun. and it looks like the lmg of ns. better, the ns light mg looks like the fg42.

u ns makers, dont have really new designs...

but that doesnt matter, why changin a cool skin instead of makin it better?

LMG: FG42
HMG: OICW

you're saying the NS team used the DoD model and just changed the skin ? All models found in NS are original models made by the team afaik. The weapons in NS are all based on modern weapons, but they're not direct copies. NS is set in the future, the near future, so it's only normal that the guns resemble modern guns. BTW the new HMG doesn't look like the OICW, well it doesn't imo s:/ and the scope on the LMG doesn't work, it's just eyecandy

they are their own -- infact im pretty sure they had the lmg even b4 dod had the fg42 ALSO don't you EVER again blame the ns team from ripping <!--emo&--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mad.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=''><!--endemo-->

The HMG hasn't looked like the OICW for a long time. The LMG might resemble the FG42, but anyone can look at it and see that it's a totally different model.

Yes, the modeler was influenced by the side-loaded clips of some WW2-era weapons.  But all of the NS models are totally original creations... he just thought a side-loaded clip looked cool.

no no no i dont think they have stolen it. i only think they were inspired by those weapon models.

i dont meant dod model, i meant the real world model.

and i said that i like it how they advanced these old wood guns (guns with wooden things, like shot gun) into something futuristic lookin.

Of course the LMG looks similar to todays weapons, We invent new things by building off the old.

And the LMG a newly skinned fg42? How can you think that? Two completley different models.

Yes, the lmg was derived from WWII era guns, but it owes most of its look to the Britsh made sten and sterling guns.  For some reason, I like the clip in the side.  It gives it a very low profile that I thought would help in the cramped confines of a ship-- though, in retrospect, I probably would have gone with the bullpup design now, if only because it greatly increases the accuracy and still allows the weapon to be tight.

    <!--QuoteBegin--></span><table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1"><tr><td><b>Quote</b> </td></tr><tr><td id="QUOTE"><!--QuoteEBegin-->u ns makers, dont have really new designs... <!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span id='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->

If that's true, then I'm in good company.  George Lucas used a <i>barely</i> modified sterling for his stormtrooper rifle, and James Cameron created the pulse rifle (in my opinion, the coolest weapon ever designed for a sci fi movie) by slapping a backwards spas 12 cage onto a thompson machine gun, and the smart gun by throwing motorcyle parts on a German mg42.

I prefer using a sort of 'found' weapon design system, by borrowing things that I like from a number of weapons and assembling them in a coherent format.

I agree that the old hmg was too close to the oicw.  It was my first game model, and I think that I was still a bit nervous about screwing up, so I decided to just work off of something that was cool, futuristic, and (at that point- over a year ago) relatively unknown-- There were several companies making oicw prototypes, and the HK just happened to be the best looking.  By the time it started appearing everywhere, I was comfortable enough to try my hand at a thorough redesign.  The old one persists in the game because many people seem to be sentimental about it . . .

On a side note, I wasn't even aware of the fg42 until the DoD update came out, months after the lmg was completed.  I mean, if you compare them side by side-- um.  Yeah.  They both . . . uh . . . have a clip in the side.

I think the LMG looks more like a Sten Gun and the new HMG like an M60.

You tell 'im monkey! The addition of a side loaded clip and a scope does not mean you copied someones idea.

... what are you talking about? ns is probably the most unique mod out there with new and proffessionally modeled,.. err mods

Hm. The only similarity I see is the clip on the side.

Does the FG42 hold around 50 bullets? Hmmm? Didn't think so. Does the DoD hand have gloves? Hmmm? Didn't think so. Does the FG42 have an ammo counter? Hmmm? Didn't think so. Does the LMG kick like a mule? Hmmm? Didn't think so. Does the LMG have a bipod? Hmmm? Didn't think so. Does the FG42 have a scope? Hmm- Oh wait, yes it does... well, um... does the uh... LMG have wood? Hmmm? I don't think so... I think.

    Man I'm overdoing it...

I think people overreacted a tad to this thread. The dude (or dudeette) just said that they looked similar.

Now I wonder, DoD is supposed to be a WW2 mod right? And Bathroom Monkey said that the design of the LMG was heavily influenced by WW2-era weapons. It follows logically that the LMG bears some resemblance to DoD guns.

"u ns makers, don’t have really new designs..."

Entirely right. If it works, don't change it. What's the point of making an entirely un-realistic gadget with more pointless twiggly bits than a than one of those little Play-Dough extruder thingies, when what you've got is fine?

    }// End rant sub

i have seen a fg42 (iam a german and there are museums with old ww2 weapons, including the mg42) and only wanted to say that u can see it in dod too. and as i said i like that they advanced the weapon with a futuristic look. it is good that they take an old weapon and redesigned it.

sorry, i am a german and cant type or speak english right.

i didnt compare dod and ns lmg, i compared that they looked at sum old weapons and redesigned it.

    !!! WATCH THIS POST !!!
