I Just Have To Tell Someone About This...

just a mushy tale of DOOM
OK so we were playing in I think ns_veil (I am bad at map names but it had Cargo, Power Silo and Vent I think as the hives). With the help of pgs we the marines controlled Power silo and Ventilation and a number of rts, when the fateful strike came to marine start, and we relocacted to the farside of the map in ventiltation. Unfornunately this happen just before we were getting HA so a few minutes passed till our comm dropped 2 Ha w/ hmg+welder (one of course to our's truly by luck of the draw) and a couple gls. Now I hope I got all the location names right cause thats important because we were at the far North side of Ventialtion, out in the open with 2 vents high above us that were prefect to bile bomb and lerk gasing from, so needless to say it was a bad place to be. Now with those facts in mind we held out for about i guess 15-20 mins there, (and I kept my Ha for 10 or 15 mins much to my surprise), but the best part was when we kill 5 thats right 5 Onos in a row they all came at the same time and die one after the other. I havent played a lot of NS but I have played enough and that was the coolest thing I had ever seen in NS!

Surprising how little you can get for 500 res eh?

Yeah, Onos are actually quite fragile, despite having so much health and armor. If they had two hives, those five onos would be ripped the marines apart (with stomp of course).

Er, that's ns_nothing, and the hive is called The Great Viaduct...

Heh, I remember a game like that we had on bast. We held out in engine (I believe) for 2 hrs. I remember 1 time, 5 or 6 onos just rushed in. They took out half our stuff, but we still killed them .

Yes last stands in bast can be the WORST. If I were to pick the most hated room in NS to dig marines out of, it would be the engine room hive on bast. One vent entrance, and one door, and onos have to CROUCH to get through the door. It's a mess. Bast is a beautiful map, don't get me wrong, but it's got a lot of flaws.

Speaking of Engine since we're on that subject:

This one game, marines were holed up there, and we couldn't seem to break em! Well finally another onos and myself (I was also onos) and a lerk or two decided it was time to rush it (granted, I think there was a fade as well, but all in all it was a small rush).

The other onos and myself quickly devoured a HA each and made for cover under the awning on the left side. It was plenty big for us to hide, and anytime someone jumped down to attack us, a quick stomp and devour took care of that. After regening, and killing a half dozen HA or so, we pushed for the structures and obliterated them. It was perfect. We just hung out hiding in their base while healing.

I remember a really long endgame on eclipse, in eclipse hive. We got there with a little bit of res, me with a jp hmg and two other guys with ha. It was amazing how many onos we killed. I know I bagged a number going into double digits. They finally beat us by devouring our ha's and me (took them forever though hahaha). We didnt have any turrets, so that was gg.

the maps design/looks maybe, but i hate it cos in most games marines always seem to go one-way-traffic
bast is always the same

nah... most hated room would have to be Waste Hive on ns_Tanith... impossible to get into with vigilant marines...
• bitemebiteme Join Date: 2003-11-25 Member: 23539Members
waste on tanith as said above is an evil place to have a marine last stand, or in my case stage an amazing comeback!! we held out for about 20 mins with lvl3/3 stuff (at which point even lmgs can cut down s and give a run for their money

anyways eventually we tooled up with a decent team of HA with a mix of shotguns , gls and hmgs, one guy went to satcom pg up and then squad 5ed the rest of the map and won the game

makes up for the other time i made 7 HA + weapons made a wp to comp core and then ended up with 2 marines at the wp, 2 in alpha, 1 in ec 1 at horseshoe, 1 at keyhole, we died and i was **** off cos aliens only had 1 hive at the time and we shoulda won but didnt, aargh im stil angry from that!!

thats my stories

Red room isn't that bad because there is no res in there. Assuming they have a siege and an observatory to prevent viaduct from being put up, just have several players save up to 100 res. Drop the hive, then place structures on the walkway above the hive (not the bridge, the normal walkway directly above the hive) so that the sieges won't hit the hive to get it up. When it goes up, just xeno spam their base until there is nothing left. Make sure to keep them from getting kills, and they can't get anything because they have no res.

marinebase on ns_eclipse is a pretty cool place to turtle up for marines
had allready 2 games with marines getting not out there
both games went on for over 2 hours and it was real fun

we had all upgrades and a couple of HA, no turretfarms just sieges to take out any mc's and dc's for acidspamming Fades

Fades tried to acidspam our rt but we banged them away with our GL's
after a while we had all upgrades and 8 Marines with full HA, hmg, GL just from RfK and 1 RT.
So aliens tried an Onosrush with 8 onos...
Nedless to say we got wasted pretty fast but after 2 distress beacons we killed all 8 of them. And with the 300 res we saved up to this point got new HA and hmg's.
Aliens got **** up and F4ed

In the other game we managed to break trough the aliens in fornt of the base and nearly got to an hive but then they F4ed that was really sad

eclipse is a really good map for marinecommebacks had a couple of other games where marines managed to win even after losing any RT's and aliens got 3 hives it's a pitty aliens always F4 before marines can take out the last hive

It's a pity that a game that is supposed to promote expansion and map control allows one team a decent chance of winning simply by turtling for the majority of the game.

Eh. 3 obs. 3 sieges on each side (long story, we used the other side for some onos killing, and later to keep the area clear so we could stage ineffectual raids). 4 hour game (to **** off two really lame players). Ended when we F4ed (after the annoying ones left, and most of had to sleep). I'm hardly proud of ending up in the commchair a while after we relocated and leading our slow improvement (yes, we teched while in redroom from the tiny tiny trickle of res we got doing suicide raids).

However, I think exploit rooms are the worst (duh), with the worst of the worst being a combined double relocation to the (on Lost) exploitable res and the exploitable siege spot for Alpha (trying to avoid giving details for anyone reading this, wanting to be lame, but not knowing how).

And, em, five oni... Is a new high for me. However, my friend and I killed four in a 2v4 (long story as to how we ended up with turretfarms) with light armor, an hmg, and another, half empty hmg, plus a few mines. Bizarre, full of onos stupidity and bad jumping, but funny. Kudos to your five onos slaughter.

Yes waste IS an excellent place for a comeback .. but why go all the way to sat comm? ... as a commander ... I drug out the game and refused to give up until we won .. (which we did) because I dropped HA amd HMG for a few guys 1 at a time ... and when I had 3 HA ... we went straight to West Access ... took it ... and I kept those guys there ... and told them to guard that spot with their life while the LMG's and turrets held off anything that wanted to try to get us in waste... then I plopped a phase in West, moved up and sieged out double (This of course took 2 tries, but worked after some copious amount of time. remember ... it's hard to get enough sieges up with 2 RT's ...)

Eventually we did win .. making it a great game ..

Now about your issue biteme... The game would have been MUCH better if you would have relocated to powersilo ...it's so much easier to guard if you either:

1) Skybase, =LNX=EvO was the best at the skybase
2) Plopped some heavies and then camped until you could take omnious kismet .. not allowing ANYTHING to get through ... The kismet is an important keystone on NS_Nothing, if you have the kismet locked down, you can easily get:
Vent west access, Generator, Power Silo, Foreboding, Marine start... etc etc ...
