If youre running XP/Norton Ghost you can try to ghost the computer..
Did you try reinstalling HL?
Did you install SvenCoop 3.0?

Norton ghost is a program that enables you to image the harddrive of one computer and install the same software configuration on all computers accross a network.
99.999% of home users wouldn't keep regular ghost backup images of their HD.
A reinstall of Half-Life would almost certainly fix this problem however I've had this problem before and I didn't have to reinstall to fix it. I can't remember what I did do though...
Make sure you don't have any weird command switches after your HL shortcut. You could also try starting "hl.exe -game ns" or something like that and see if you can start directly into another mod.
Installing steam would probably help matters a little too.

It's a piece of rubbish, but:
AMD K6/2 500MhZ
64MB Geforce 2 'something'
200 MB RAM.
I was using HlToolZ to crappen it up as well so it would run faster, think some of those settings have interfered with halflife.
Looks like Software mode fun for me for a week <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->
