Please Enter Cd-key

Okay I'll just enter the... WTH?!
Tonight I decided I'd finally install the copy of Battlefield 1942: Secret Weapons. So I launch the installer, click through the autoexec and get to the installation screen. I'm ready to install when it asks me for the CD-Key, which it says is located on the lower left-hand side on the back of the CD-Case. So I turn the case over, spot the box and... wait, WTH? Where's the CD-Key? There's a box for it but no key! Why in the hell would they sell me a game with no CD-Key printed?! Can you help me?
BTW, my girlfriend says she got the from Fred Meyer, straight off the "New Releases" Shelf, so we can discount the possibility of piracy.
