    My setup, when I am done, which is fairly cheap and good:
    AMD Athlon XP 2500+ (barton core) - ~ $70
    Asus A7V600 - ~ $100
    Generic 400-500W powersupply ~$60
    1GB DDR400 RAM ~ $100
    Superflower White ATX Case: ~ $50
    (not my current setup) Ati Radeon 9500 PRO - ~ $150
    100GB Harddrive: ~$100
    Windows XP Home: ~$100

    That should sort ya out for a while <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Where I got mine, don't judge it by the extremely-unfancy site, they have REALLY good service, and pretty good prices too.

    All I can say is NEVER buy anything that just came on the market less than 4 months ago. Even if it fits in your budget, you'll be kicking yourself in the nuts about 8 months down the road if you do.

    Money saved on slightly older gear can be used for upgrades in the future (which we all know you WILL need)

    Listen to [Who]Them and Beast and ignore everybody else who posts in this thread saying "olo get an athlon 64 bit 10googleflerps CPU they're only like two thousand dollars and run at about 3.2gig because nothing supports 64bit yet~" ¬_¬

    Cutting edge technology in the computer world is a very, very bad investment as it will be cutting edge for a maximum of 6 months and a minimum of two, and unless you're stupid and rich, or just stupid with a credit card you can't upgrade every 2-6 months just to keep top of the line.

    My system is an Athlon 2500+ Barton on an ASUS A78NX+ motherboard, 512DDR2100 and a cheapo Radeon 9200. The whole base unit including a snazzy case to wrap it all in came to ~£350 and I haven't yet found a game that makes it struggle. Even the DX2 demo ran quite well O:

    I will totally recommend the nForce motherboards. There's a very good reason that Alienware use them. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Also, as to the Athalon 64's, hodge, currently you can get an A64 3200 and an Asus socket 754 mobo for around ?450, while it's expensive, it's not quite horrendous. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
