Heh, I've managed to knife a few skulks in my time. Lag is your enemy against skulks: I was trying to hit one earlier to today but he just kept warping around me. The com was dropping medpack after medpack but it only a matter of time before he got that headshot.
When you are fighting at close quarters, remember that a skulk can strafe faster than you can turn (unless you have mouse sensitivity at an insanely high level), so it's best to keep them in less than say 45% of your vision is possible.
I use sensitivty 7, and still have trouble following them at close range. I have something I like to call the "bob tacitc" (becuase my friend bob likes to do this). He basically shoots the skulks, did he judges one knife will kill them, let it charge him, whip otu his knife, and go for the kill x_X. Dangerous, but fun: not something you want to do in a tight game (it's cool when the game is going really well for marines, or really badly, adn your positive you're gonna win/lose). But that's besides the point, my prefered method to dealing with skulks is reloading my LMG, if I feel they are not within 1 knife shot of death.
I find the knife hard to aim with actually...I still need to do more expiermentation. I think if it slashed sideways, like it shows when your fighting a marine, or spectating, it woud be easier. but the way the animation works for the marin first person throws me off a bit, and I ussually end up crouhing and trying to hit the skulk...but whenever I see people knife skulks they are ussualy runing in a circle standing up...but when I try that I just get pwned!
I find that if I've fired off all my ammo and a skulk's still around that if I time it right it's faily easy to take out a skulk with highish health even with the knife. run away a bit and get in line with him letting him run at you - when he gets close run forward and jump over his head slashing down as u go - u shud land a few quick hits at least. rinse - dry - repeat admittadly a skulk will catch on pretty quick so ud better hope he hasnt got too much health left when u start
