matrox always had buggy openGL drivers, i used to have a g200. try downloading the latest drivers if you haven't already. You could always try the matrox techsupport, maybe it's a known problem.

When I had a Matrox G400, I had loads of problems that were unresolved by new drivers. I also had the windows protection error on startup, and various other issues, and the only way I could sort them out was I had to go through the startup option in msconfig and also the options of what to run at the menu you can get just after the bootup screen (press f8 or something). Turn all these options off, then turn them on one by one, and some random configuration of things starting up seemed to work for me, then it broke again and I got a GeForce 2 Ti. The moral of the story is, Matrox cards aren't very user friendly and very buggy with windows.

Ginger: This may not be the issue, but it's best to check it, anyways. Go to Control Panel>Display>Settings, and make sure you're not set at 640x480 or something. Jump to 800x600, or, even better, 1024x768 if you are.

w00t! All my other games work! And the lockups aren't happening as often now. Still having probs with hl though. And yeah, I built my comp from scatch but the fact that both a newer game (NFS hot pursuit) and an older game (Jedi Knight) work kinda rules that out. I think the lockups were happening because the "all in one" driver I got from nvida wasn't fully compatible with my card, strange. The other thing is that after a while with windows it just screws up and you have to format, this happens to everybody after they go long enough without reformatting, don't tell me it hasn't happened to you. Xp has no sound emulation for dos, too bad I still play duke3d sometimes.

lol, I already told him that but I forgot about the one in display properties. But really, your problem is nothing compared to mine. Its made me bitter, now I hope NS gets delayed for a long time, just so no one gets to play it before me

Ahh, more problems. Try this one for size...

I have Win 98 2nd edition(currently updated with recent MS updates), and have been unable to run my disk defragmentation utility for 240 some odd days. I did this just a few days ago: I changed my Digital Blasphemy wallpaper to a blank screen to take a load off my desktop, closed all non-essential applications using the task manager until I had about two apps remaining (probably Explorer and Systray). I then ran disk defragmenter on my partitioned 20GB HDD through the night, and in the morning, it said that it had only done 10% of the "C" Drive, and not even touched the "D" Drive. It then said that the drive contents changed, and restarted the "C" drive. Again it said that it had done 10% for about 10 more minutes before I turned my machine off.

Any Ideas of what I'm doing wrong? or need to change?

Maybe once NS is released, I can let rumage through my OS for sustinance, and then I can build myself the new machine that I already need...

    Pr0ph, i was asking you.

Did you build your computer yourself, or was it a pre-built, like a Dell?

Jedi Master Hayato: try running Disk Defrag in Safe Mode instead. With Windoze 98, just hold down the Ctrl key as your computer is booting up, and it should bring you straight into Safe Mode. Minimum drivers, and no TSRs. Run Disk Defrag there, and everything should be swell.

As for the video card problems, I'm sorry, but I'm just not sure. I would contact Matrox through e-mails. Make sure to be as kind as possible in the e-mail, and you should get a response of some kind fairly quick. It's always worked for me.

rofl, its just that that's happened to me before and I associated it with my own comp due to deja-vu. And Hayato: If safe mode doesn't work you could try deleting some things, also make sure that there aren't any scheduled tasks.

I've built 2 PC's for myself, One's an athlon 1200, the other's an athlon XP 1800, which is what I'm on now.

Ina addition, i've also built 2 addiotional ones for friend's, and I've repaired and tech-supported for countless clueless teachers and parents of friends.

Yes, yes, the combined force of my 2 Gigahertz machines, and my 1337ness does, officially, Own your ###.
