hm, this mindless shooter is quite a contrast to ns, but its worth a try <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

I dont think a very sharp thing could cut my mind off NS 3, letalone a new version of Sven. Even so, it is still a great mod.

Wootage. I loved the teamwork needed in this mod (90% of maps are impossible without 1 other person!), I look forward to the updates. Thanks! <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

I don't mean to frighten anyone, but after I installed Svencoop under HL instead of steam, it screwed up my NS client.dll somehow and I had to reinstall NS O_o. Might have just been me, but just to let you all know....

Sven Co-op definitely doesn't mess with your NS client dll -- I know what the problem is, though.

Sven Co-op uses the latest fmod.dll for its MP3 player. Natural Selection v2.0 uses the older fmod.dll for its MP3 player. So when you install SC3.0, an fmod.dll is installed that's incompatible with NS2.0, and vice versa.

The ironic thing is, the only reason we actually upgraded to the new fmod.dll was to /prevent/ compatibility problems with Natural Selection. (NS3.0 uses the new fmod.dll). I didn't think about 2.0 using an older dll.

Pity the fmod guys couldn't have kept the dll backwards-compatible :/. Well, anyway, the only thing you can do until NS3.0 is released is to keep a copy of both fmod.dll versions. Copy the old one to Half-Life\ to be able to play NS, or the new one to be able to play SC. Sort of arkward, but there's no way we could have avoided this... with NS2.0 and 3.0 using different fmod versions, SC3.0 had to be incompatible with one of them.

Having your birthday too close to Christmas has its drawbacks....

You'll recieve gifts from your relatives and friends with a card saying, "Happy Birthday & Merry Christmas Wintergreen"

Well, if this whole deal works the way I think it does, you could put NS in your HL directory, and SC in your CS directory. Then the fmod.dlls wouldn't overwrite each other, and you wouldn't have to switch all the time. Don't trust me though, I know jack about this stuff.

PS: If you don't use BitTorrent, you're downloading Sven Coop with HITLER!

PPS: If you use BitTorrent, and don't keep the window open after you're finished, you just downloaded Sven Coop with HITLER!

Linkage for information on how to fix the fmod.dll/client.dll error

Has to do with the new version of HL, and the new fmod.dll

EDIT : Gah, I was about to post in the SC forums until I noticed that Sven Viking came here and posted <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->

So, I tried SC for the first time ever last night.

That game is INSANE. It's like somebody dropped a huge pile of acid before they played Half-Life.

That isn't to say it's not fun. It certainly is. It's just also extremely crazy. I spent most of the time confused. This is usually a bad thing, but somehow it didn't bother me with this mod. Especially once the server switched to toonrun.

    God that was nuts.

Fux0r. Now I'm getting the fmod.dll problem. I thought it was only a problem for WON, for some reason. Blah. How do I get the old fmod back? Is there a place where I can tag the correct version right off, or do I need to completely reinstall NS?
  • BobbybirdtreeBobbybirdtree Join Date: 2003-11-30 Member: 23787Members

Not your fault. It was full, and something went wrong on my end, so I had to go somewhere else.

Anyway, sombody's PMed with something that might help fix the problem without reinstalling NS. I'm going to try it to make sure it works, and if so, I'll ask permission to post it here or on my webspace, so as not to suck up the origin's bandwidth.
  • ThE_HeRoThE_HeRo Join Date: 2003-01-25 Member: 12723Members
Guys, Lightning Blue has a fix for this, and we're asking his permission to link to here. It has to do with the new fmod.dll that the newer mods use, and the old fmod.dll that NS2.0 uses. So just sit tight. If you're eager to play both, do this:

Rename your fmod.dll that you use to play NS2.0 to something you can remember(eg. fmodNS.dll) and then use the new fmod.dll to play SC. When you're done, name the new fmod.dll to something like fmodSC.dll and then rename your fmodNS.dll to fmod.dll. Hope it isn't too confusing.
  • 7Bistromath7Bistromath Join Date: 2003-12-04 Member: 23928Members, Constellation
Yeah, the little file Lightning's got basically does that renaming trick for you automatically through a pair of .bat files. So if any of you know how to code something like that up, you can do it for yourselves and your friends without soaking their bandwidth before they give us the okay.
