...about buying games at EB.
Yesterday, I decided to go spend some cash ($50, actually) on some games. I first went to WalMart, they had nothing really good *cough like usual cough * so then I go to the mall, because Electronics Boutique is in there. So I go into EB, browse for a while, and find some goodies. Diablo 2: LOD and Warcraft 3: TFT (I already had the basic D2 and WC3). So, I go and buy them. It cost $50 in all. When I get home, I get out TFT and see that the seal is open. I then open it up and see that there is no game. So then I go up to my dad and say "Hey guess what? I have been royally ripped-off!" and tell him theres no game. He calls up EB wondering where the game is and they say they should have it by Wednesday (today). Well, today I go there and they said that the game CD must've been stolen, since they cannot find it anywhere. So I get TFT refunded. They say they'll have the game by Monday. <_<

My Lesson Learned: Always check the box's seal to see if it has been opened before buying the game.

I had a similar problem. I was about to buy a used copy of Return to Castle Wolfenstien for LAN party purposes, but then I realized that the CD key was on the outside of the jewel case. They'd shrink wrapped the jewel case to make sure nobody took the CD, but the key had probably already been written down by about half the population that walked into the store. Seems like fair evidence to me that the guys working there weren't gamers.

Same thing with me with half-life plat edition.

P.S I wasted post #666 on the "NS in other games" thread. *bashes head on wall*

Heh, I've had nothing but good experiences with EBGames. I bought a copy of WWII Online there about a year ago and when I got home to install it, it said that the key was already in use, so I brought it back to EB and they exchanged it for a different copy without any hassle. Also, I've had quite a few short conversations with EB employees (They were all hardcore gamers) and they're pretty nice guys.

Oh, and the EB here covers all the CD keys on used cases before selling them, so there's no problem there for me.

Even at a primitive level, make it a habit to check your bag when you buy fast food. I'm sure everyone does that, but since I don't get out often, it was only a year or two ago that I learned that lesson.

The more complex the purchase, the more critical it is to check.

See what makes me mad is that 90% of the people that work at those things don't know crap about games. I could probably make them more money faster, and get more loyal customers, with my knowledge of games.

No shizzle, me and my mom ordered about $10 worth of food at Wendy's after a day of non-stop shopping. They gave us a tiny bag with (and I kid you not) 1 box of chicken pieces and 2 french fries floundering at the bottom.

Wasn't too hard to figure out it wasnt what we ordered.

I hate EB because they let me waste $50 on Enter the Matrix. If they were true hardcore gamers they would have downloaded the pireated version released 3 days earlier just so they could give their honest opinion

hmm I one time when I bought a game from EB, I shook the box and heard a nice solid thump from inside and smiled gleefully as I thought of the awsome CD cover art I could look at at while I installed the game/ Then I skipped over to the desk and purchased the game and went all the way home eager to play it.

Then I get home and I open the box and well,

lets jsut say you cant stick a block of wood in a cd drive.

Then they woudlnt believe me that i didnt put it in there bla bla bla so I mentioned the word "fraud"to the manager and then they gave me my money back.

What a strange system the game stores use around your area.

Here you hand over the game box, they get the actual cd and manual from behind their desk and they put the stuff in the game box.
I wouldn't buy at stores where they do otherwise, you all trust people too much.

I remember the first time I tried to buy half-life, my CD was missing the CD-key...which is bad. Then when I tried to return it, they say, "Are you sure you need a CD key?"

    bah.

Happend when I bought the Half-Life Adrenaline pack, try to play online, get the ol' CD-key in use problem. So, I contact Valve, they give me a new one and disable the other. Pwnt to whoever stole my key .

I remember I once asked this guy at EB what he thought about a certain game. His response:

"Jeez, I just sell this stuff, I don't play the dang things."

    GG stoners.

yes, that happened to me also.

My copy of FF8 PC was missing the most vital CD - the install disk. 3 CDs. I tried to tell them that, but they said that "CD 1 was the install disk" until one of them suggested they pull another box off the shelf and look. 4 CDs.

I was quite amused and gladly brought home a clean new sleeve with 4 CDs in it.

Wow, and I thought that only happened to pirated games.

Your CD drive survive the ordeal? My friend's didn't, and furthermore, he now suspects it may have eventually trashed his computer after the motherboard went kaput as well.

I think all the EBs in the UK just have empty boxes on the shelves, with the discs themselves being kept behind the counter. The only time I've had a problem there is when they couldn't find the disc for the game I wanted.

My missing disc traumas always comes from magazines - it's so annoying when some little muppet has swiped the disc, because it would have been *so* easy to check in the store.

I ordered 4 games from gamestop.com once, and all 4 were missing games lol. (AvP2, quake 3 arena, quake 3 team arena, warcraft III)

I still order most games from gamestop and I've never had the problem.

I've always made it a habit to thoroughly check that the boxes of games that I buy are still intact and closed/taped with the original packaging. Usually I'll actually grab the box that's second or third from the front box on a shelf, just to be safe (or paranoid).
