<div class="IPBDescription">Anyone listening here?</div> Just got a brand spanking new stereo system (Sony sacd player, NAD 320BEE amp, Athena AS-F2 speakers) and I've been completely blown away by the quality of sacds (Super Audio CDs) . . .

In case you haven't heard of the format, here's the 411 (as the kids say) from Phillips' FAQ:

What is the technical difference between CD and Super Audio CD?
A: The CD uses 16 bit PCM recording technology at a 44.1KHz sampling rate. The frequency response of the CD is limited to 22.05KHz and its dynamic range is limited to 96dB. The SACD format is based on DSD-recording-technology, which uses 1-bit delta-sigma modulation and a sampling frequency that is 64 times higher than that of the CD. This enables the SACD format to offer a frequency response of 100KHz and a dynamic range of 120 dB across the audible range that allows for true reproduction of original source material without the omission of any naturally occurring sounds.

Anyhow, I've been comparing albums that I already own on CD with recent sacd purchases-- most notably 'Tommy', 'Dark Side of the Moon', Peter Gabriel's 'Us', and the Police Greatest Hits-- and the sound is utterly amazing. The range, clarity, and depth are truly remarkable.

If you're looking to upgrade your system and don't mind re-buying music you already own (suuuuuucks), then check it out.

Anyone else have some good sacd experiences?
