So now we don't have a download link on top of the forums?
Of course, this one wasn't skinned at first. It had the blinding white and light blue color scheme, that made you want to tear your eyes out after looking at a dark screen playing NS for hours.
The original PHP board (these) was the ugly white.
Ah, its been a fun year.
Reminds me of the fact that I've been around for two years now o_o
Lost my account when we changed forums because I never got around to updating my password or whatever we had to do.
I remember when this baby finally got skinned too. We were promised a Kharaa skin to!
I wish we'd kept those old posts somewhere. They would be mighty fun to browse. I want to find my first ever post. ^_^
--Scythe--
Though.. never did get around to ever feeling like posting.. And that web design back then.. gwar.. despised it.. Top bars.. grr.. side panels.. pwnz you now...
The background of each post was gray or black, so you could match your text color and it would blend in, to read it you would just highlight it.
Even I remember those old forums.
Aaaaaahhh, I can almost feel the good times... wait, no I can't!
When we switched to PHP from Ikon, MonsE was more easily able to port the old posts over, but that crummy Ultimateboard kinda sux0red.
Oh, and yeah, changing text color was a big thing back in the early days...
First two community moderators were Moleculor and Spyder, who for at least a month or so were stuck with the shotty tools on Ultimate board (if I remember right, all you could do was edit posts... no parsing or mass move or any other conviences we other mods enjoy today).
eh?
I remember those poor slow things, at the end of their life taking 1+ minute loads, if you were lucky. Also if you look at the bottom of the image, it shows rob, and 3 guests on there, I remember the days when that could happen, you would be the only one who had visited in a 15 minute period. Nowadays, the least I've seen in a 15 minute block is around 20, and that's at about 4am Mountain Time. And yes, the ugly orange which I made, and despised (who the heck also made buttons and were quite popular but never used?). Heck, I remember people demanding the orange back, when we first got this forum, and it was all white. I should finish the Kharaa skin for this sometime soon...
Heck, here's some more nastalgic things:
a) The NS Guides - <a href='http://guides.readyroom.org/' target='_blank'>http://guides.readyroom.org/</a>
b) An image only a few of us have ever seen, one of the early designs (made by FAM, no way I can make this) for the NS Manual:

Aye. Same here. Thanks to Arkaine and Vadakill pointing me over here during the summer of 2002.
I played ns since it's 1.0, but I never really got into the forums till about 1.03, when I discovered my first love here: Fan-Fic...

NS has made leaps and bounds, but we still need that effing alium skin for the forums *eyes Comprox*
btw: what kind of box is this running on?
I also remember trawling throught around 20pages in the mapping forum drooling over the 'style test' shots that merk and relic were doing. It took me -days- and most definatly got me hooked on NS.
After that we got those new fangled 'fast' forums. Eh, just wasn't as fun.

I remember NSguide, and I have also remembered that second pic, only.. I really don't remember where exactly and definitely not in the setting of the NS manual. I might be mistaken though
<a href='http://gamecache.net/wayward/ns_intro.swf' target='_blank'>http://gamecache.net/wayward/ns_intro.swf</a>
The original NS flash intro that I've wisely saved. Careful! It'll try to load a page when it's done :-X
OOO, and here's an old playtest pic. Sometimes when you exited commander mode your view was skewed. Flay might not like this getting showed, but ah, what the heck? This is an EARLY version of Hera, when the command console was moved to an area to the left of reception. To the right is a path to where the duel node is now, straight ahead would take you to the "ugly oval hive." Straight to my left there was a room with a command console (brush basted, not model). And that room was a death trap if a lerk with spores got in! Hehe...
It was also this very build (and maybe this game) that spawned the notorius <a href='http://www.stripcreator.com/view.php?author=rob6264&ID=93126' target='_blank'>Mole commanding incident</a> - Mind you, what was said in comic was actually SCREAMED over voicecom. Ahh, the good ol' days.
