Do You Have A Job?

If so, do you like it?
I'm a full time Uni student but on my holidays I come back to my home town of Gladstone to see my parents.

There's a place there called "Actest". It's a coal lab. Their job is to collect a sample of coal from a train or ship and report back various properties of it such as ash percentage, sulphur content, specific energy… that kind of thing. The manager of the place used to go to Uni with my mum so he's a friend of the family.

I have this deal sorted out that is as follows: Whenever I'm back in Gladstone I give him a ring to find out when I can go back to work.

This is the greatest employment deal I've ever seen. I get casual pay rates but permanent hours, usually about forty a week. It works great for him too because most of his permanent staff go on holidays when I come back to Gladstone.

If I want a day off I can just give him a day's notice and I'm clear. I can start whenever I want and finish whenever I want as long as I work 8 hours that day unless I work out special times beforehand. I usually start at 0700 and work 'till 1530.

I would much rather be working and earning money than sitting around at home decomposing slowly in air-conditioning even though the work is hard and terribly, terribly boring and repetitive.

What are other people’s take on employment? Do you grudgingly give up your time to go and flip burgers of the afternoon to make some money to buy gadgets and/or clothes? Or do you enjoy spending time earning money to put away for things you need?

    I work at coles.

I scrub shelves, mop floors, do various automata activities and do generic odds and ends.

Although the pay is good, the job is lousy, the hours are lousy and oh? Did I mention I hate my job, my life and myself?

Whoops, looks like a more **** mood for me. Yay.

I worked all through high-school at fast food places. I quit for a year (still enjoying my break). Now its back to finding a new job for me. Another dead end, lousy job.

I work as tech support for an ISP. I've just started, and I do enjoy it. The money's ok, the people and conditions are good, and I can remove people's access at will. Oh, and free ADSL....

I'm just a student right now, but within the next year or so I will most likely be working as a part time EMT with either a private ambulance company or the Fire department and going to school at the same time.

Being a student is ok, but it's aggravating to not be out and about.

I sort of liked my job.

Until Yesterday. They are considering firing me, because I came in, and my sweatshirt smelt a little like pot.

Yup, I may get fired for something I did not at work, after a year and a half working at the company.

freaking **** at the A&P just like every other grocery store try to find every reason to fire you once you work there for a year or so, its cheaper to hire new labor then to pay for mild insurance coverage they give me, a one week paid vacation, time and a half on sundays and holidays, and holiday pay (like 30 dollars they give you on Christmas, New Years Day, 4th of July, Easter, and Thanksgiving) ****. Complete freaking ****.

Argh, sorry. I'm a very upset college student who is contemplating how to shake up the world in some way before I go.

Sirus, get certified and become an EMT, then proceed to roll around in all the excess cash

I had 4 or 5 jobs and I'm only 17, they all were decent to okay, but they brought in money so it was all good.

I work at the Westerwood Hotel. The fountain you see near the entrance isn't there because one of the night porters crashed into it with a gold caddy. Pan the camera a few degrees to the left and you would see my house down the hill. I'm a Kitchen Porter. I clean dishes, pots, machinery, floors and other random stuff. It's a crap job but my boss (head chef) is great. Gives me hours off when I want and didn't go crazy when I turned up 4 hours late. The General Manager loves computer games so we get on OK It's a good place with good people, it's just my work Another thing is that on the sheet with our tasks it says "Hygine Technician" then the persons name (me). Like the sound of it
