Dude, back in 1.04, I could take down any JP'er as a lerk, no contest. It just came second nature to me. I was ALWAYS a lerk in 1.04 no matter what the situation.
It handles much like 1.04 if you only have basic equipment, but any kind of advanced stuff(even just a shotgun) and you're "heavier" and can't fly as good. Or so I understand.
Oh, and if we got the 1.04 JP back, I assume you meant how it was for 100 FPS people, not the fps-dependancy back...?
the 1.04 jetpacks were nice, but the 2.0 jetpacks have more maneuverability and that's nicer, but I also dislike lerk bite; though I haven't played 3.0x yet to see how it is in combat compared to being used on rare occasions in 1.04 (at least by me).

Tell you what. Make it the JP from 1.04, but FORCE it so it's like 60fps on everyone's system, and then I'd consider supporting it. Wanting it just so you could be 'teh win' is just silly.

I understand that Thursday, I meant if the JP functioned with the same thrust/regen etc as if they had 60fps (I.E It became fps independant, unlike the 1.04 one)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought the Half Life engine was only capable of rendering at 71 fps...thought I read that some where dunno for sure though. I think netgraph isnt acurate anyway.

I'd just say this.... I would MUCH rather defend a 1.04 jp rush than an impossible to defend 2.01 HA train. I'd like to fly with a 1.04 jp once again... so much better than that jumppack thing we have now...

Even in 3.0, aspecialy in combat, the JP/SG combo is super hard to stop. Some maps its dame near impossible to truely stop a rush of JP/SG marines. I really think that the Gorge should be re added to NS:C, or increase the heal rate of the poor Hive.

Give yourself a jetpack, and use only a LMG (a scount-like class) with little ammunition and you will be flying much easier than with a shotgun with 8/40 ammo. Give yourself a jetpack, and drop all weapons except the knife, and you won't believe how easy it is to navigate and fly with it. Give yourself a jetpack and HMG with full 125/250 ammo, and you will hardly be able to fly.
I just played a game of 1.04 about a week ago, and it was sad how powerful the jetpack was. I would take the 2.x jetpack over that any day.
And on a side note, about the babbler AI, I believe it was infact using a modified version of the snark AI code. I was tinkering with a babbler metamod, and I used the snark code, and they act very similar to how the old babblers did.
Bringing back babblers would be great but you would have to remove another weapon and the gorges have no weapons to remove. Then the programming would have to be changed cos of the snark engine making babblers look like they die when they jump.

Babblers were fun yes, but they were also very useful and not a waste of time, if a gorge was being attacked and let out a ton of babblers the rine(s) would either keep shooting the gorge and kill him and 1 rine would die or shoot the babblers allowing the gorge to escape, the latter was more likely cos the babblers crawled all over em and the gorge could stay there spawning more and get the kill. And babblers lagged alot less than 2.0 nade spam. I personally didn't notice any lag being on 56k at the time even during babbler rush.

i have a geforce 4 mx440 64mb, and i get 100 fps easy.... fool...
i think that in ns combat they should add 1 AI babbler than spawns from the hive when its under attack... only for small games where the aliens are at a deficit (like 1v2 or 2v3).

Think about jetpacks in movies (First one that comes to mind is Boba Fett). You can fly around with them indefinately. They should be that way.
It takes a skilled Skulk to leap-kill a jper, and then he's probably nailed enough average skulks to get enough RFK for a new JP.
