<div class="IPBDescription">Virus thingy</div> There's this virus that automatically shuts down the anti-virus program...

Is there any way around this or do I have to reformat my computer?

    lol, silly virii

    try running <a href='http://housecall.trendmicro.com/' target='_blank'>Housecall</a>

That should clean up your HDD, then update your friken virii database! <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

Restart computer and press F8 (at least that's the command on Windows ME... <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo--> ), then select Safe Mode. This will cause Windows to start only the required programs, no others. Should keep the virus offline and you can clean it then...

    Sounds neat!

Can someone give me the command on Windows XP?

I think F8 works for XP too, but I'm not sure. Won't hurt if you try. Just remember to press it a few times, when your computer finished testing the memory.

assuming you don't use a dell or similar poses that block the scrn there should be a part that says press xx key to enter safemode

and, try running house call again, it will bork sometimes. But if it runs fully (any your gona have to just let it sit there) your computer will be clean (trend micro for the win)
