Generic Host For Win 32

<div class="IPBDescription">AHHH!!!</div> I'v got this HUGE problem.

Sometimes, when I'm using the computer, an error page appears saying "Generic Host for Win32 has a problem". So I click close, as it shows the button Close, or Send Error.

However, something else appears, saying that I have 60 seconds to save whatever I'm doing until this the computer shuts down. And then, it restarts my computer. The problem is, that most of the time, when the computer restarts, the same thing happens, but this time, without the error waringing. It just closes after 60 seconds!!!

I dunno if it's a virus, or something. I think it isn't, since it's been a month since I didn't download anything, or installed anything, and this problem began yesterday. Could someone help me?!?!

I have Windows XP Professional.

IIRC don't balster et al. exploit a vulnerability in the RPC service? Does this service need to be on for any reason?

Yes, it does. remote procedure call is what lets the My Computer window access 'remotely' your floppy drive, and its what lets internet explorer access your harddrive, because such things are considered remote from the point of view of a local executable. the blaster worm doesnt turn off your computer, it crashes RPC, which windows then decides to turn off. you can tell windows from the services applet not to reboot, but without rpc functionality youre gonna wish you had rebooted.
