Design Help Needed

<div class="IPBDescription">Generators</div> I'm making a room now, and I'm a little stuck here. How do I connect that post to the block with the monitors without making it look too ugly and blocky?

PS- The textures, sizes and design are not final at all, they're just there to give me a general feel, so don't waste your time on feedback about them.

You could of course drop the tapered column or slanted top of the monitors if you're tight on your poly-count.

I think it would be interesting to have the column split up near the top. Like have the regular column then run some fraction of the faces the entire way up. Then you could put a light in the center on top of the column. This would cast some cool looking shadows across the room. If this doesn't make much sense let me know and i'll work up a screenshot of what i'm talking about.
