When I was playing NS early in the summer (Won), there were lots of servers to choose from but now just yesterday I got NS (for Steam) and there are only about 10 or less servers with active people playing? What happened? Did something go horribly wrong?

That and I hope the glitch with my steam NS will be fixed I happen to like steam makes it look all shiny and new and adds a much cooler feel to the HL engine (this thing is kicking the energizers ****! if you thought the bunny wouldnt quit this engine cant seem to die) Ah yes back to the glitch when I go alien my right mouse button no longer works (its mapped correctly 2) and I've had to hotkey all my alien structure and evolves (Yippe im onos! "hand slips" OH GOD NO IM THE... gorge gawdamnit never at least slips onto the fade key!)
A Damn Fool: When did you last play NS on Steam? Because the right-click pop-up menu has been fixed for a couple of weeks now, (Or more).
And it's very likely that there will be a drop in the number of servers/players once WON shuts down; People on 56k will need to wait ages to downlaod it once it's released, not to mention the huge queues if downloading from Fileplanet, (Which will obviously effect modem users aswell); Some people might simply not bother downloading it. Also, Steam requires more system resources to run, so people with aging computers may experience terrible drops in fps compared to when they played on WON...
When they turn off won they will kill Halflife and its mods for a lot of people such as me cause i will NEVER download that buggy piece of **** called steam. Its huge its buggy it slows down your machine and gives you nothing useful that ASE doesn´t has already. And thats few megs and works like a dream.
We've been assured that WON will not go down untill every bug has been ironed out of Steam. Hopefully by then they will have also lowered the amount of CPU it uses when you play, (Thus better gameplay).
But VALVe has no choice in this matter; Sierra is closing down WON no matter what. So that's why Steam was created.
steam does have some advantages when you get used to it the easy patching for one thing and the friends system with the in-game chat really grows on you

Ah, but then there's the issue of size. Why is a previously 300Mb game now 2Gb? Even with mods my old HL directory scored a Gb.
Just because 120Gb drives are available, doesn't mean you can get sloppy with your coding. Ah, the days when Elite fit and run on my 24k BBC Micro. Then you had to optimize your games.
Don't forget about how many patches and stuff has been added to HL since the game came out. Must be almost 100mb. Steam is good because it allows you to have such easy access to your games and the fact you can DL games right on Steam without having to look for them is great, auto patching makes sure you never connect with OOD games.
At first I was not going to use steam till it was shoved in my face, but ever since I updated to Steam I like it alot. I also DLed DoD and played that for the first time. Good game!

As for Steam being 500k, most ppl I talked to didn't realise this, and got the 700meg full-cache one instead. Even with the 500k one, EVERY mod in your HL directory is converted, using up more space than sense. Even with just NS, Richochet, Sven Co-op and CS (for LAN games only, it is ok there,) my Steam directory is still bigger than my Windows one, and almost 10* as big as my RedHat installation.

steam directory is so big because every game in the "my game" list can be played without downloading half life for steam. so all games in the "my games" section got the full code. same will happen to ns. you will be able to play it without downloading any other game for steam. it is wonderful. now i got at least a couple of gb more to use for other games cause i don't play any other hl mods. just about 500 megs for steam ns will be very cool <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
