A Little Confusion To The Response Of Spam

I'm a little paranoid...
Thanks to the inevitability of the end of high school, I decided to sign up for a scholarship website that would keep me updated on upcoming scholarship awards. Only problem is I think that part of the deal is that I would end up getting spam from other companies.
Just a quick question: Whenever a message gives you the choice of being taken off the e-mail list, should I be suspicious that this is what they will indeed do? Or do they just use it as information to recognize, "Yeah, this e-mail account is active. Begin the barrage!" /'Ode to Joy' plays in the background
Damn it... I'm finally being forced to use my e-mail on a minimum weekly basis now...

Since scholarships ARE important to me right now, I thought it would be wiser to simply sign it up with my main account.
Someone thwack me with a smart stick please.

Seriously, I don't; I haven't signed up for a single post-secondary institution yet, and that's because reality hit me hard in realizing that there is no way in hell that I can set up a decent portfolio in time to get a course in animation. Temporary redirection until then; I'll be taking English or creative writing for university next year after I finish my military basic training for the summer. I'll work on my portfolio while I'm at it, and then go for animation in college/technical school.

hoho! But see, alot of people think that. My sister won a 3k one, just because she was the only one that entered. Alot of those scholarship ones just end without anybody taking the prize.
