Including Models In Maps

When including models into maps, what is a recommended max polycount for them?

I'm working on a standing light for my map which has a substantial amount of detail over the old one, but it's rather high-poly. So basically, what would you guys suggest being the maximum poly count?

Here's the model anyway, 902 polies of pure bad modelling, and yes, i've not done the texture yet. I'm hesitant to start cutting down on polies on this because i like it as it is, but it's probably going to be required of me. Bah.

    Check <a href='http://natural-selection.org/Mapping_Guidelines.html#Appendix_A__Baseline_E-Polys' target='_blank'>Appendix A</a> of the mapping guidelines.

To summarize, the official maximum is 2100 mapper-placed model polies in a scene--that includes comm chairs, hives, map models, and resources (which are counted as if an alien chamber were attached). If your model doesn't have any other mapper placed items visible at the same time from any angle, you theoretically have 2100 e_poly to play with. If players can see your model and 2 nodes at the same time, you'll be looking at a limit of 824 e_poly for your model.

The limit is far lower than single-player Half-Life because NS is a different game with higher dynamic loads. It doesn't make sense to compare map models to dynamic loads like turret farms for establishing a limit--they can end up on the screen at the same time, so it's not an either or situation that would establish a set limit. The current limit was set by looking at the maximum common amount of mapper placed e-polies in the current maps, which is caused by pairing a hive with a resource node.
