Princeton Admission Application

This is hilerious... and scary
For whatever reason I got an application from Princeton. Im guessing it was some mass mailing or something, but I've been looking through it for the past few days and it makes me scared... these are some of the questions (which must be written out by hand):

Tell us about one person who has affected your life in a significant way.
My Dad for showing mw why I don't want to grow up to be like him, an unemployed deadbeat dad.

If given one year to spend any way you wish, how would you spend it?
Rolling around in piles of money.

Two adjetives your friends would use to describe you.
Witty and Outgoing, HA!

Favorite source for news.
Gamespy

Each of these is followed by an intimidating 1/2 page of blank space to write your answer. I can't bring myself to even look at the thing or fill it out. I mean, if I don't send it in then I will never know if I would have gotten accepted or not. And if I get accepted then I have to drop all my plans to attend USF and move to New Jersey within 6 months. I wan't to get accepted, but at the same time I would be relieved if I didn't.

Oh yeah, Princeton tuition = $28,000 per year. USF tuition = $6,000 per year. Although I guess if I graduate from Princeton, I really wouldn't have a problem paying that off will I?

Did I mention this comes about a day after my Mom buys a house so we could live closer to USF? Yeah, bad timing isnt it?

Give it your best shot mate, the worst they can say is no and even then it's not like you have lost anything coz ya never had it in the first place.

The only decision you have to make is are you sure you would be totally commited to it?

I would lose the $60 application fee If I got accepted of course I would be commited, I'm not going to be paying damn near $30,000 to fail college!

On a more English note, I've just found out I have zero percent chance of getting into Southampton Uni (closest uni to my house) owing to the fact that they actually want intelligent people in their uni (A,A,B grades minimum, some courses A,A,A). Number four in the U.K and number Twenty one in the whole world, IIRC, might as well try to get into Oxford

Guess i'm going to have to settle for Reading or *insert dramatic music* PORTSMOUTH!

U could do a 2+2 thingy, go to the cheaper college for 2 years to get your core classes done, then transfer to princston for your speific major classes.

That way you save lots of money and u can still go to the other college.

sigh. When will people realize that where you go to get your undergraduate degree means next to nothing.

    Candidate 1: Candidate 2:
    GPA x.x GPA x.x
    degree: bs Degree: bs

    Tuition: Tuition:
    $10k/yr $30k+/yr

Which one seems to be the more intelligent?
same degree, same courses. For undergraduate it all is the same in the end. You really know nothing anyway.

    (for engineering at least)

Maybe in America, I don't know. But an employer over here would take on the guy who got a 2:2 from Oxford and not the 2:1 from Above Average Uni. Sad, but true.

But the MIT graduate will make more money, and get a job easilier.

After five-ten years experience, imo it wouldn't matter anymore.

[edit]Also, certain companies won't even interview you unless you graduated from the top 50 in the usnews report thingy. Stupid, but true. So wizard, i'd hafta say you're wrong.[/edit]

By the way, bit of advice to anyone thinking of applying to uni - get a sandwich year course. (Basically, the university lets you have a gap year after the second year, where you go work for a company). Apparently, in the first three months after leaving university, 70% of students who do sandwich years get work from the same company that hired them.

Just don't turn in the application Early enrollment/thingy.

Just submit it by regular deadline's, that way YOUR not committed.

If you submit a college/uni application, you aren't guaranteeing that you will go there.

what exactly are you going for anyways?

That can make a difference. In the US at least.

If you are going for a buisness or some computer thingy, you can go to a 2 year vocational school that will teach you in JUST buissness / computer classes where as in a full college you would have to take other classes like languages/ math, art classes etc. stuff that have nothing to do with what you want to do.

These types of schools are becoming very popular in the US and accepted in the job market.

Dude, decisions about early applications COME OUT THIS WEEK. The deadline was like two months ago.

lol. I bet 4:1 against my getting into MIT.

I realized I can't apply anyway, I need 2 or 3 SAT II tests in either Math I or II, Physics, or Science, etc, etc. I also need recommendations from 4 teachers, and since I'm homeschooled that would pretty much be me, myself, and I. At least I don't need to move, yay.

the cool thing is that, like sumone else said, you can hit the community college for a while if you boned high school, and then go to a good univ right after...

and in the states, typically they give community college students priority in enrollment.
