Now, I KNOW there's gotta be some hidden scam behind this. But it's still so tempting to be "Dr. Dave" even if it's completely fake. Anyone know what the catch is by any chance ?

You'd pay and they would send you a piece of paper with your name on it, marked Ph.D. (probably printed on some old printer in the back room too) and that's it. Total scam, it's obvious.

hmmmm, mebbe I should go find a PhD template on the internet and fill that out.

And hack into the social database to update your status, no? <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

Well the scam is that they say within "days" yet "days" could mean anything between 2 "days" and 10,000 "days".

It sounds too good to be true, which is why it almost certainly is.

Note the ALMOST since I suppose in theory this COULD be true, just as the rumours that Flayra is really a monkey-operated robot could be true.

Or you could just introduce yourself to people as a Doctor. It's not like anyone meets a total stranger and asks them in depth personal questions about their work. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

Actually it probably IS true. You get a doctorate from their "university."

But employers do background checks, and usually the school you went to determines your credibility. That's why schools like Havard and MIT are so sought after. It doesn't mean you get a better education there, though that certainly is possible. What you get is a better reputation, as the school's rep transfers to you.

A school that hands out degrees to any old bum would not have such a great rep, and so you'd still be stuck in dead end jobs.

I think I'll get my PHD from this place so that all you nubs will have to call me Dr. DOOM! And also then when I came into #ns I'd be like "TEH DOCTAR IS IN!"

    mwahahahaha

That's the key line. They're non-accreditted, which means they aren't actually worth anything. Accreditted colleges and universities meet certain standards for education, which this obviously doesn't do.

    I should clarify something....

I'm not questioning the validity of the degree. I think anyone that thinks it's a quality degree is a moron.

The question is whether there's an underlying scam below that.
  • ZelZel Join Date: 2003-01-27 Member: 12861Members
the underlying scam is likely collecting your personal info and/or charging for that nonaccreddited degree certificate.
