cs nOObs see new game in their my games
Do you think that there will be a newb serge when 3.0 comes out due to the large number of CS players who see this new game in their my games list when they restart steam?

and will this affect game play in a positive or negative way?

    Yes.

As if the incusion of NS combat won't assist that as well.

yes but who cares, it will boost the NS community. They will learn how to play ns 3.0.

They will learn, or they will leave, or they will take over. I don't think they can take over, because the NS community is aimed at working together, so we'll come together faster, I don't think they'll be able to affect it. They'll adjust, or leave. Personally, I hope some can adjust, I am starting to know more and more people, and it's starting to scare me, I'm supposed to be anonymous!

or... maybe they aren't so different from us, and maybe everyone should stop this stupid stereotyping. Doubtless some of you came from CS as well...

*chuckles* Never said I was very good at it, or that I can play it anymore. The style is very different, and I never did do well on my own. I didn't fit into CS, though I did come from there.

me? never!!!i played hl single player, and halo, i suck at cs. and the point was not anything against cs players. i just ment that most of the people on steam play cs (just a simple statistic) but they sudenly see a new game on their list (ever try ricochet just to see what it was?) so now the about 25,000 ns players will be added to by maby oh say 10,000 people from other games, you do the math

what this means is that we need a new era of newbie friendlyness in the community... PLZ PLZ PLZ stop whining about newbs... especally in the next few months... Teach them how to play the game, then whine about newbies.

Hopefully. And this time, we have to teach them better than we taught the 2.0 newbies. All admins should have a (temp)ban-if-not-newbie-friendly rule for a few months.

Same thing happened to DoD. I was a pretty active DoD player back in the beta days, and ever since steam came out, I've seen an abundance of CS players play DoD, some good and some not so good. This should make NS more popular, thus more clans and more competitions and what not. It should do more good then bad imo.

Ofcourse more people will come. People that tried NS 2.0, and didn't like it, will see "NS 3.0 RELEASED!" on game site, and fileplanet, whathaveyou, and think "Hmm, worth another try I guess, maybe they improved on what I didn't like." Not to mention the people who've never heard of NS before. Hopefully those people will like it, learn to play, and stay to make this an even better community.

CS is like the "hub" of all half-life mods... Players then branch off into other nearby spokes (RE: NS) to possibly stay there. Unfortunetly CS doesn't teach everything the other spokes have.

2.0 was meant to boost ns-scene, did it happen? no
  • Jabba_The_HuntJabba_The_Hunt Join Date: 2003-01-05 Member: 11850Members
2.0 did boost the number of ns players, not by a massive ammount, it was just a slight peak. 3.0 may or may not give a bigger growth, mainly because of its apparence on the new games list.

Yah, there will be a massive boost to NS players. You lot ought to be amazed on the large number of people who've never heard of NS before...

I mean, everyone knows what Counter Strike is, but as for NS, it hasn't reached that "everyone knows" status just yet. It's part of the attraction too; people hear about something over and over again, and in the end they'll be compelled to try it out. That's partially why CS is so popular. It made itself popular.

If NS can make itself popular enough then there'll sure be a steady stream of newbie players coming along after a while. And I'm pretty sure that I'm not the only one who thinks that NS has way more than enough potential to make this happen, right?

exactly why I started playing- I heard about it from Custom-tfc.co.uk when the NS team told the custom TFC people not to use their stuff. I thought... "if they can make good models, maybe they've got a decent mod!" and lo and behold, I'm hooked now. And I'm waiting for my donation to go through.

Yes it will, all games under my games show up all the time ( though greyed out if not installed )

Anyway it'll have both good and bad sides...
The bad side is, 98% of the CS-players are stupid "leet" people who don't give a crap about teamwork
The good side, there's 2% left

You deserve to play NS as much as any one else. Guess what, not every "n3wb", "h4xor" or "1337dude" has been playing CS for their entire life, and suddenly decided to invade your NS. Because it's not "your" NS. All it took you to play it was download NS.

You are not special, and judging by the posts some people have made, you "deserve" to be here as much as any other h4xor.

CS nubs and steam support = CHEATS! I think there MIGHT be an increase in cheats used/made for NS due to so many people noticing it, and getting owned as nubs. When nubs get killed by invisible things that fall from the sky, they might try to cheat.

as the coommunity grows bigger it always becomes negative to the community, take DOD for instance....
