I define a script is something that helps the player do something that they shouldnt be able to do, like drop massive amounts of ocs rapidly, or some sort of speed attack script, not a bind "mouse1" "+attack" thats a bind, not a script.
A script is in a file, made of aliases that call upon each other to perform movements for the players, like a bunnyhop script.

Or wait... my script to say 'need a medpack' ohh jeebus!! everything is out of control?!?!?
eh I dont use any scripts, I find them too restrictive, and tend to rely on them, which takes away from my fast style of play of I have no clue what I am going to do next. Scripts are good for those who cant do certain things though, like bunnyhop, or shoot a pistol real fast, or switch weapons really quickly, I dont mind it because the amount of talent in pubs has kind of dwindled, if this stuff will make low talent players better, than hey i'm all for it, because I'll get more of a challenge now.
A single key doing a single function is a bind, but when you make it do one function that leads to others, that is scripting. There's your difference. Binding a key to OC is not scripting, but making a script to assist you in bhop is. Pistol scripts and bhop scripts are some of the most common, but I was never one to agree with or use anything of the sort.

You don't need any scripts at all.. I have my numpad bound to different buildings, but other then that and a few toggles (+use, voice_loopback,rdyroom) theres no need for scripts.. they *will* slow you down, theres no question about that.
I actually find that scripting is fine. When I was learning hour to BHop, I used a script that hammered jump three times, so I could get the timing. Then I changed it to make me jump twice. Now I'm scriptless, and really, the only way I could have learned how to BHop so fast was from the script (took me a couple weeks to learn how, I'm not fantastic by any means, but decent).
So really, it depends on what your using the script for.
Scripting is fine as long as it is not used for exploiting (eg pistol/bunnyhop scripts from _special). I have the dive script, and I will post it for you so you can remake your script to not lag.

I agree with the guy that said scripts shouldn't be used, and that single binds to 1 key functions are not scripts, but more than 1 function is. The better you will become without a script <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->

everyone reading this try typing this in console: bind . "say fun way this road is rolling"
script = a way to cycle through these binds.
not all scripts are evil, but most of them are.
Don't use scripts, use skill instead. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
