Why opera is the best browser

<div class="IPBDescription">Features ie can only dream of</div>- Speed

Opera loads faster, renders pages faster and makes it easy to jump between pages. It won't hog your memory like IE. Define quick keywords which you can enter instead of a long complex URL.

- User interface

With Opera you can have dozens of pages open at once and switch between them with ease. Mouse gestures allow you to navigate in multiple windows without pressing a single key. The integrated Google search tab is always present for maximum searching pleasure.

- Looks

With a single button you can turn ugly illegible colour schemes (like the one of this forum <!--emo&:)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'><!--endemo-->) to a wonderful black&white look. You can quickly turn images on and off, loading only the images you absolutely *want* to see. Smart zooming features give you quick control over the font sizes.

- Anti-spam

Opera allows you to suppress all pop-up windows, all cookies (or only third-party ones) and all Javascript. You only reveal what you *want* to reveal. Filter out GIF animations, videos, Java and other time wasters.

- Smart cache

Opera's cache actually works. You don't need to load pages twice, and it creates no hidden directories to spam your HD like IE does.

- integrated email, news and messenger

Say goodbye to Outlook virii.

*****

To sum it up: IE is horrible software. The only thing it does well is rendering useless time-wasting graphical gimmicks which the world doesn't need. It's only popular because Microsoft bundled it with Windows, a practice that will hopefully turn out to be illegal (and if it isn't it should be). If you want a good, fast, useful browser <a href="http://www.opera.com" target="_blank">download Opera</a> right now, and show Mr Gates what you think about his newbie programs.

    I actually like IE.

    Yes Opera is better.

But I don't have to reinstall every last utility in the world every time I format my PC thanks to Mr Gates.

Also, thanks to Mr Gates and Windows 95, PCs have dropped to a 1/4 of their pre 95 price, games now work and every piece of software you buy stands a good chance of working.

Most of the complaints about MS software are down to the very fact that they are both popular and integrated.

Hey, I'm not saying MS is perfect, but for a guy who made PCs and gaming from a niche hobby into a global industry within 7 years he does deserve a little less stick from you ungrateful ********.

I'm giving it an honest try.  I like the idea of gestures, but it seems the reason it should feel fast to many is because it changes the page the moment it gets any data whatsoever.  It isn't faster, it just works off of less data sooner.  In the case of this site, it gives you the top links, halts for a bit, then gives you stuff to read.  It ain't so fast...

also, though my connection is misbehaving, the pages often don't load completely, a rare problem I had with ie, much more common with opera.

I figured I'd give it a shot too.

I already dont like it.  Why?

Well, look in the upper right hand corner.

"Click here to buy Opera and remove ads"

    #### them!

Why should I be hassled into buying opera because of ads?  Look, I know they need to make money, both nothing pisses me off more the god damn ads ...

    In a ####### browser no less ...

    I'll stick with IE5.

Opera needs a little time to get used to, but is really a very good alternative - although I don't use it since yesterday, see the General Discussion for the reason :/

Could you please tell me how this connects to IE?
I do not doubt that a big standard was necessary to get PCs to a broad audience, but that doesn't excuse sloppy programming that happened some time afterwards.

I used opera for a while when my IE just decided it would be fun to not work, and I couldn't be hassled with reformatting my computer at that time. The gestures thing although sounds good irritated me because I move my mouse around alot anyway and was accidently opening pages, minimising and closing all the damn time so that got turned off, its ability to block java meant a couple of websites I used to visit frequently where completely inaccessbile so I didn't use that either.  I'm now back with IE 5.summat with a nifty little pop up killer program running in the background, my problems are solved =)

And I have to agree the inbuilt advertising in opera does tend to make you want to vomit

    I've got to get ######## removed from the filter list.  <!--emo&:D--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':D'><!--endemo-->

Opera was very unstable when I tried it a few weeks ago. IE doesn't crash very often.

I use IE because I just can't be (though I have NS6, Opera and Neoplanet for testing web-sites I make, I wouldn't use them normally).

If I feel like I need a change of scenery, I'll just turn on WindowBlinds.

edit: IE is free... I'm not going to pay for Opera.

Opera's pretty good, yes, but if you want to use <a href="http://http://www.meyerweb.com/eric/css/edge/" target="_blank">any fairly advanced CSS</a>, it still breaks. Internet Explorer has pretty much fundamentally broken CSS, so it's still an improvement. <!--emo&:)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'><!--endemo-->

Personally, I'd use something like <a href="http://mozilla.org/" target="_blank">Mozilla</a>, which has a scarily advanced rendering engine. It's a <b>lot</b> more stable than its predecessors, and it's Free (with a capital F).

    Admittedly, I'm a <a href="http://www.konqueror.org/" target="_blank">Konqueror</a> fan...

I remember a few weeks ago when I couldn't check my hotmail account with IE... but with Opera, it worked perfectly. So much for Microsoft trying to make all their sites non-Opera functional. <!--emo&:p--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':p'><!--endemo-->
