<div class="IPBDescription">Features ie can only dream of</div>- Speed
Opera loads faster, renders pages faster and makes it easy to jump between pages. It won't hog your memory like IE. Define quick keywords which you can enter instead of a long complex URL.
- User interface
With Opera you can have dozens of pages open at once and switch between them with ease. Mouse gestures allow you to navigate in multiple windows without pressing a single key. The integrated Google search tab is always present for maximum searching pleasure.
- Looks
With a single button you can turn ugly illegible colour schemes (like the one of this forum <!--emo&:)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'><!--endemo-->) to a wonderful black&white look. You can quickly turn images on and off, loading only the images you absolutely *want* to see. Smart zooming features give you quick control over the font sizes.
- Anti-spam
Opera allows you to suppress all pop-up windows, all cookies (or only third-party ones) and all Javascript. You only reveal what you *want* to reveal. Filter out GIF animations, videos, Java and other time wasters.
- Smart cache
Opera's cache actually works. You don't need to load pages twice, and it creates no hidden directories to spam your HD like IE does.
- integrated email, news and messenger
Say goodbye to Outlook virii.
*****
To sum it up: IE is horrible software. The only thing it does well is rendering useless time-wasting graphical gimmicks which the world doesn't need. It's only popular because Microsoft bundled it with Windows, a practice that will hopefully turn out to be illegal (and if it isn't it should be). If you want a good, fast, useful browser <a href="http://www.opera.com" target="_blank">download Opera</a> right now, and show Mr Gates what you think about his newbie programs.

here ya go ;)
Yes Opera is better.
But I don't have to reinstall every last utility in the world every time I format my PC thanks to Mr Gates.
Also, thanks to Mr Gates and Windows 95, PCs have dropped to a 1/4 of their pre 95 price, games now work and every piece of software you buy stands a good chance of working.
Most of the complaints about MS software are down to the very fact that they are both popular and integrated.
Hey, I'm not saying MS is perfect, but for a guy who made PCs and gaming from a niche hobby into a global industry within 7 years he does deserve a little less stick from you ungrateful ********.
another person who feels like I do ...
I thought I was the only one!

Lets fight the power Grendel ...
er ...
something ...
<!--EDIT|Silver Fox|Sep. 06 2002,01:00-->
also, though my connection is misbehaving, the pages often don't load completely, a rare problem I had with ie, much more common with opera.
I already dont like it. Why?
Well, look in the upper right hand corner.
"Click here to buy Opera and remove ads"
#### them!
Why should I be hassled into buying opera because of ads? Look, I know they need to make money, both nothing pisses me off more the god damn ads ...
In a ####### browser no less ...
I'll stick with IE5.

Could you please tell me how this connects to IE?
I do not doubt that a big standard was necessary to get PCs to a broad audience, but that doesn't excuse sloppy programming that happened some time afterwards.
And I have to agree the inbuilt advertising in opera does tend to make you want to vomit
I use IE because I just can't be (though I have NS6, Opera and Neoplanet for testing web-sites I make, I wouldn't use them normally).
If I feel like I need a change of scenery, I'll just turn on WindowBlinds.
edit: IE is free... I'm not going to pay for Opera.
Personally, I'd use something like <a href="http://mozilla.org/" target="_blank">Mozilla</a>, which has a scarily advanced rendering engine. It's a <b>lot</b> more stable than its predecessors, and it's Free (with a capital F).
Admittedly, I'm a <a href="http://www.konqueror.org/" target="_blank">Konqueror</a> fan...
What exactly is the word? I mean writing it, loupolling the filter.
