Go take a look at the <a href='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/index.php?act=ST&f=4&t=100' target='_blank'>mapping forum FAQ</a> for all the outlines on NS specific entities and one or two links to tutorial and resource sites.

Personally i started off just by opening VHE and mapping, but i did used to do some "back in the day".
