Only applicable to college football fans
I'm sure not many of you are sports fans, and neither am I, really, but this is something that really got to me. Had to share it somewhere.
First, a little background information. I've lived in Nebraska all my life and been raised in a family of Nebraska football fans. I've spent most of my life living just 40 miles south of Lincoln and have been to games nearly every year since I was in elementary school (and during middle school made every home game) and now am in my third year in the Nebraska Marching band. I'm no huge football fan myself, but I love the game day atmosphere and I love being a part of gamedays and I love watching this team play.
Background out of the way, I walk upstairs to hear from my mom that head coach Frank Solich has been fired. To many who follow Nebraska football, this is no surprise. There has been speculation on it for the last week or so. And Solich just last year led Nebraska to its worst season in decades.
Here's the thing. That worst season in decades was a 7-7 record. Since starting in 1998, Solich has a ~.750 winning percentage, comparable to NU coaching legend Tom Osborne's first five years. Solich also did something that Osborne didn't do - He took a team to a title game in that time, the Rose Bowl in 2001. With the exception of last year, every year Solich has been here has continued the streak of 9-win seasons that lasted so long, and with a win yesterday in Colorado secured another one with a 9-3 regular season record.
So why the hell is he being fired? This is a guy who is doing just as good as anyone else in Nebraska history and just topped off a fantastic regular season. 9-3 just isn't good enough, though, it seems. How many teams elsewhere would kill for a coach who could fairly consistently toss out 9-10 wins a season, let alone even the 7 from our "dismal" season last year. Talk about being spoiled rotten. People here are so impatient. Just earlier this year, after some poor playing by QB Jammal Lord and a surprise showing by freshman Joe Dailey, everyone and their dog was talking about how Dailey would take Lord's spot by the end of the season. Then, after a longer playing time where Dailey showed how unprepared he was for the spotlight, everyone rejoiced to have Lord back again. It's ridiculous. Sure, we have a reputation of having great fans, but I think that's only because we take out all our anger and frustration on our own team instead of the opposition. We applaud a visiting team coming off the field, win or lose, and then boo our starting quarterback.
Ugh. I think it's ridiculous. I don't know how many of you here follow this sort of thing, but I'd be interested to know what you think.

edit: after reading the last paragraph you wrote. why he is being fired. football is all politics. was his paycheck to high did people not like him. you know like in nfl if the general manager wants to get his own peeps to coach not the ones who were there before him. thats why **** jaraund is gonna get fired after this season
