To All Team Members Of Ns

Hey guys, I just wanted to say a few words.

I've played just about every single half life mod ever created, and have been part of many teams, clans, and even personal projects. Half Life is actually a big part of my life, and it's provided me the most entertainment out of any game which I have ever played. I was an abid Team Fortress player, Counterstrike Player, even Vampire Slayer player.

That's all untill Natural Selection

Now, granted the community is really terrible sometimes, (VERY BAD), clan's tend to stack, and servers exploit the crap out of games, Natural Selection is THE best half-life mod ever created. Counterstrike has fast-paced strategic action, yet is miniscule to the ammount of fun you can get out of Natural Selection. In cs, you hafeta worry about tactics, weaponry, and managing your own money, but for NS, you hafeta command a team, research weaponry, place structures correctly, and even more. Natural Selection has the greatest ammount of strategic dept, stress of teamplay, and damn fine'st graphics out of any mod.

Now, if the community became a little more newbie friendly, and servers stopped abusing their powers, I could easally see this mod beating Counterstrike out of the waters. I've played it for years, and this mod is simply better.

I just wanted to let you guys know you did a really great job, and keep up the good work. BTW, you better finish 3.0 soon!

Yes, the things you mentioned are the biggest hinderance to the success of the game... now if only mod authors could figure out a way to make cool successful mods without the neccessity for people to play them, all would be good.

Any questions asked by newbies are answered in new player forum.

Problem is that new players come to General Discussion and ask some trivial questions here. Of course community gets annoyed by such newbies.

Another thing is newbies moving to NS from CS. They come to game, ask how to buy guns and start ramboing. If newbies would read manual or listen to other players everything would be fine. But teenagers want to have their way.

So NS is about teamplay, sometimes sacrificing before team (spending start res for upgrades and RTs rather than saving for early Fade or Onos). Because newbies just think for themselves and act rude when they are told that team looses if this continues... well... I think this is reason why newbies are looked down.

But then again. Developers wrote to main page that manual is going to be rewritten. Maybe community changes to more newbie friendly after that. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

You're right. We're horrible to NSPlayers. The accessibility of the game means any fool can pick it up and play it... But if people are put off by the game's community will it hold it back in any way? What's the aim of the game anyway - to become a standalone game like CS did, or just for the sake of having a good time? I really hope the development crew use their fame here to get into good positions in the business, and I wouldn't personally mind paying full price for a copy of NS, but if people did that I think the whole family atmosphere would be lost and the value of playing reduced.
What was my point again? Oh yeah... I didn't have one. Just... I'll try and be a bit more accommodating to newbies in future.

Dude, I didn't mean that flames to newbs is the problem.

An example is I asked a regular, (necrosomethin), if he knew where I could find some aliens models, since he has repeatively said he had them. Anyways, he replied by saying, "find it yourself", and blocked me. Wow, what a ****!

Some servers I've been to have their clan members stack, and when people complain about it, they simply ban them. Heck, one server an admin slayed me because I was an onos, and kept eating him in heavy armor!

I'm not saying YOUR a bad person. Heck, I hate newbies like any other mortal. However, your actions degrade the mod in whole, so try to be a bit more respectable next time and we'll forgive you <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->.

Now, this doesn't mean this is even a gigantic problem. I regulared about 10 servers, and only two of those had any admin abuse. All of the rest are fun as crap.

Oh. I guess this was a bit off topic. I don't think the makers of ns can really change it. It's more a community thing <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

You know I have been playing this game for 8 months now and I love it to death. Everytime I join a game I always have a great time. Sometimes better than other times but over all I always relax and unwind when I play.
This is by far the best GAME I have ever played.

As for your comments about some ppl and servers not being friendly, I have to say you must be playing with some losers. I play with Forum regs, there is only 1 server I play on (sometimes 2) and that is the Lunixmonster. LB gave me a res spot there and I use it... alot, because its the only server I play on. I know everyone from the forums, I am among friends and I have the best time playing there. A great server makes playing the game 10 times better.

Everyone needs to find there Favorite server, I have mine and it makes the game some much better. This is the best community I have ever been apart of, and if you all didn't live so damn far from me (Toronto) I would go out for pints with you all!

The NS community is a bit icy to the touch for the new players. But also, the better players, the "elite" ones, spoil it so by being so far up there own... --> <!--emo&::skulk::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/skulk.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='skulk.gif'><!--endemo-->

But NS is quite a deep game, a thinking mans game. The last thing you should do is disturb a man who is thinking.

I never read the manual... i just started and was so lost, i was like... uhh... what do i do... ?.... but then 3 hours later, i decided to play it again, and instantly got it (i had to put cl_autohelp 1 on <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo--> ) but i got the game, and been happy ever since <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

NS is completely different from CS and new players should respect that. Though I do feel that was very wrong of you to classify an entire age group based on the actions of a few.

I resent that. =p I'm a 16 year old teen who's moved from CS to NS, and I try to follow the commanders orders to the best of my abilities. Infact, the only reason I started regularly playing NS was because of the increased teamwork needed in the game, where as in CS you'd be lucky to get one guy to listen to you. I haven't played CS in a good while now...

The NS dev team get my thanks and my congrats for creating such a unique and overall great mod.

you're right on most points.....however I find CS has as much depth as a puddle stragety wise. I'm not including the "hide behind the crate" or "camp in this tower with the sniper rifle" <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

Meh, it had the potential for team strategy, unfortunately it wasn't forced, so CS became the Team DM we see today.

I always seem to meet NSPlayers who don't speak english, or simply ignore my help. I try to be nice, then I just get angry.

Just wanted to say that It's been a long while since I was hooked on a game as much as I am on NS. Last time it was Sacrifice - an amazing First Person Strategy game that never got the credit it deserved. But that's history. I just wanted to say that i agree with the first post: NS is THE greatest mod for HL and one of the best online experiences anywhere. And I'm saying this from the position of an editor for a professional Israeli gaming site (Vgames.co.il), with more than 3 years of writing experience on games.
