philosophical and religious allusions
ok, i just finished the ENTIRE thread of Matrix Revolutions in this forum. yes. lame. yes, i'm a nerd, geek, dweeb loser etc. but really the whole philosophy and or religious allusions was not addressed to the extent i would have liked.

so if you DID post somethign about this topic, plse repost it here. DO NOT POST YOUR REVIEWS of the movie here. if you don't like it, fine. don't post.

here are some various ideas that i DID not see posted in that uber massive 'i-have--no-life-so-i'll-read-the-whole-thing' thread.

-Merovingian: was a French Royal family that was involved in the Merovingian Heresy, basically, the believed the Holy Grail to be the blood line of jesus, of which they were the sole carriers. how does this plug into the matrix themes/ideas.

-architect/oracle as ying and yang. the mother and life giver, darkness etc the light and destroyer (i think that's how it's divided).

-the sacrifice of eros for agape as illustrated in dying of trinity and the sacrifice of the one for the zion.

-many times i saw the trainstation referred to as purgatory. but the population of purgatory is traditionally supposed to be quite large (ppl who are good, but not good enough to get into heaven), and in the trilogy, the population is pretty much zero. and the idea of having the Christ figure as a permament resident? totally out of whack. the trainstation looks more like the dock over the river styx, and the trainman, the boatman.

-how is the Trilogy more of a gnostic reference than a strictly christian one?

Theres only one thing I did not understand about the Matrix:

    ***SPOLIER:

I felt that the movie tried as hard as possible to attach more than 1 symbol to each character. For most characters it was both a religious symbol as well as an emotion or idea/"frame of thought".

I think that they did this so that they could flip each character between the two so as to throw you off the scent of them representing either one.

But, as we all know, some things don't lend themselves well to any specific symbol. I think you'd be hard pressed to prove that a bowl of jello represents anything religiously without building up the bowl for at least 10 minutes.

So, I believe that certain aspects of the movie had to ditch symbolism entirely just to get the story moving along. The trainstation itself being one of these aspects, existing solely for the discussion about love.

So, in summary, I don't think that any 1 thing should be read into too deeply.

From what I understand, the oracle asked the other dude to set everybody free... But if he does, wouldn't that shut down the matrix due to power loss?

she only asked him to release those that wanted to be freed. Because as we all learned from cipher in the first movie, some people like the matrix better than real life. Especially if the cover was blown and it went into "eden" mode.

I think we can dispense with marking spoilers as spoilers. Anyone who reads a thread titled "Matrix Trilogy Discussion" should know better than for it to not be about the Matrix trilogy

Neo didn't bring freedom to the people of Zion. Only peace. If it wasn't for Neo, Zion would have been destroyed by the machines and the machines overrun by Smith. So that's why Neo helped 01. They didn't want to lose all their crops, so they had to agree with Neo, only one able to save them. In return, they had PEACE, no more killing one another. Additionally, they said anyone wishing to be freed from the Matrix could be. As it has been said, most are UNAWARE of the matrix and some don't want to get out of it. But some few know about it and want to be freed.
