Q on the siege cannon!

What do those things fire?
Well its late and I just happen to skim through some of the old screenhots and saw a pic on the siege cannon. I was just curious. What do those things fire? The picture had a tool tip HUD or something and it said, "sonic based." There was a part that was glared but I thought it says that the weapon can attack through walls or something.

Hmm, I'm not sure, but it can shoot through walls within a certain area.

If it can shoot through walls then it probably is sonic based as the terrain is deformable... it could be something like xray or gamma ray but I doubt it.

It's a sonic weapon; it locks on to buildings and fires; there is also a rather painful splash damage radius.

I know it must be STC every now and then, but what is the Rate of Fire?

I imagined the siege cannon targeting a builiding, then you would see the barrel kickback, and a muzzle flash or whatever, then a few seconds later the building would take damage, and anything around it.

    You sadistic freak...

    LMAO...

The abrrel probably wouldn't kick back, but my guuss is it would target a building with a sort of X-Ray device, then create a resonating effect, with actually 2 pulses. The first pulse would echo off of a wall, and collide with the other pulse, resonating the other direction, yet slightly out of phase so it wouldn't cancel each other out.

Since some objects would be ripped one way, and some ripped the other, it would basicly rip the building apart.

    ...

Or something, jeff should be able to come up with something better.

Only buildings and fires? I don't quite get it, it's a turret right?. ...oh wait, its a Siege Cannon meaning it attacks only enemy structures, right? Is it auto targeting or does the commander have to designate a target?

Fires automatically, but only at buildings. However, the blast radius will screw up anything around the building.

Nice! So I would guess the Siege Cannon is rarely used except when attacking the alien's hive? What is the splash dmg radius? Something like the CS grenade? DOD grenade?

I have no clue, but judging by the PT stories, it seems to be a little larger than a DoD steilhand.

Also, I've heard of them being useful when placed in the marine base, to help prevent the marines from becoming boxed in.

Alright going a little off topic here. Marines have a turret and a siege cannon. So what do aliens have? I remember from the topic, "Takes from the Frontline" that some alien turret/structure can heal the aliens quickly. BTW, yes I used the search button but the other topics didn't answer my question and I don't like bring dead topics back from the grave.

Rarely used except when attacking? The marines' goal is to eliminate all alien hives. If it is possible for them to stay on the offensive, so much the better.

The siege cannon's role is an anti-building marine measure. It's somewhat of a counter for the fact that the aliens have an easiler time building (they don't need a commander to place it). Basically all alien buildings within the radius are toast if given time. As for those nearby (addum) unless your right next to it, it doesn't really get you. And always STC. (end addum)

As for how it works, one could say it's a railgun with an explosive tip. That's why it can go though walls and the like.
