Previewing Stuff In Hammer

The main thing that draws me away from mapping is the inability to spot certain errors or preview lighting effects in the 3-D view screen. Is there a way to preview lights and other things without compiling the map?
PS- I heard about QuArK's OpenGL view but I never managed to figure out how to load an FGD.

Nopers. That's simply Half-Life and teh Hammer showing their age.

It takes a while to get used to. Just thank your lucky stars you don't have to do it all in Notepad! <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->

lol alien if you do a search for one of my posts for quark some1 had the latest .qrk file in their sig
although i've just given up quark, for reasons that it doesn't show errors very well and holes are near impossible to find...
BTW quark 3dgl isn't much better than what you get in the 3d window, it only shows a little bit more...
