I'm talking alpine skiing here. Who else is a snowfiend? I can't keep myself off the mountain in the winter, I'm just wondering if any of my other forumites are into skiing. If so, post your brand and style of skiing.

Contrary to my sig, I'm riding Salomon 1080's this year, I'm obviously a terrain park skier.

Hopefully towards the end of this year my friend will finish editing our film and I'll have our video up.

But anyway, post on.

I'm a relative skiing nub who loves it all the same. I'd consider switching to boarding but I just bought my first pair of skis so now I'm kinda locked into it :>

what do people think? is boarding a fad, or is it gonna replace skiing, or will they both endure forever?

    Skiing? Pshaw.

Snowboarding for me, and I've only gone a number of times, but MAN! It's a lot more exciting than skiing. Pff.

I snowboard....I tried skiing when I was like 9 and it just hurt my knees too much when I'd crash. Crashing on skiis sucks. The End.

    pwnz

too bad I don't get to ski much. I'm barely a black diamond skiier.

My cousins are unfazeable tho. They see a triple black and they nonchalantly go try it.

Denmark and northern Germany get about an inch of snow at most, so not much skiing here. You'll have to either travel south to the Alps (nubs) or north to Norway or Sweden (ownage). Skiing is a wholly enjoyable pastime I've found. Most fun was the african we'd brought along: First he gets to Denmark, which is bitterly cold. The man was walking around in thick clothes INDOORS. Then, barely a month later, he's dragged to Norway (wth is all this white stuff?) which is EVEN COLDER (he was seriously afraid of freezing to death). Next thing he's standing on skis and sweating so much that he has to take his jacket off. Imagine never having been outside Africa before (it had been ten years since he'd been more than a hundred kilometers away from his hometown) and then being confronted with all this. The experience must've been magical really. He was a natural on those skis too.

Despite tearing my ACL and partially tearing my MCL in my right knee 3 years ago I'm still skiing. I've got some 80 dollar skis I got at a second hand store. The best part about them is I know exactly where my skis are all the time. The guy who owned them before me engraved them with the name "Edward Lee". I'm a 6'4'' Tall very american looking guy, so it always looks like I'm trying to steal somebody's skis.

    I tried to ski once...

<-- My left leg went this way

And my right leg went this way -->

All the while some 7 year old kid came flying by me at about 30mph and he didn't even have any poles...

    I hate skiing. :(

My brother did that when we were learning. My dad actually had to run out and lift him up because he was stuck in the splits. And let me tell you, this was full on splits too. I'm amazed he didn't tear anything. He was bawling his eyes out. Good thing he was only 8ish at the time.

Sometimes its easier to start out not using your poles. (they are good for getting up though)

New skiiers rely on them a bit too much.

Used to ski at the dry ski slope in Southampton (yes, Southampton England, we don't tend to get much real snow ).

I was pretty good (imho) although I suppose you can't get REALLY good on a dry slope.

Unfortunatly my pro skiing career was brought to an abrupt halt when (irony of ironys) the ski center burnt down.

And I never learned to use the poles either.

Skiing totally blows but downhill skiing is lots of fun Though I decided to sell my skiizors and try snowboarding next.

I did the whole skiing thing when I was little, but I didnt like it too much, so I took up snowboarding. I've got 200+ hours of experience doing that, so I'm pretty |33t. [/bragging]

    Fad fad fad.

Trust me, check out some of the new schooler skiers, e.g. Jon Olsson, Boyd Easley, and Tanner Hall.

They're nuts, bringing so much innovation to the sport and going huge everywhere. Last year Jon even aired a foot higher out of the pipe than any snowboarder has ever done, which is insane because boarders usually out-air skiers by 2-3 feet.

Anyway, check out the site in my sig, great newschool freestyle oriented ski brand.

Skiing is the only thing I look foward to during the year, I absolutly LOVE skiing. I have been skiing for about 12 years now, I hve my own skis, boots, bindings, and poles, and now Im 21 so If I get too cold, I can "warm up" at the bar in the lodge

I don't get out of Ohio though, I want to go to Utah or someplace where there are good hills. *sigh* Being poor bites.
