<div class="IPBDescription">But I'm Having Hassles :( HELP?</div> OK I purchased a nice shiny new XP 2400+
with new fan (the old one was starting to make odd noises).
We stuck them all in and booted, but the Black screen on Start-Up
said that the processor was a 1900... er thats not quite right.
So we restarted the machine, altered the BIOS PnP settings and
moved the settings (can't remember which one, I mainly watched).
The Black Start-Up now read the processor as a 2600.... but then
went to a black screen and refused to go further.
After playing with a CMOS battery and getting things back to their
usual settings, i'm stuck with the processor running at 1600mhz (apparently it
SHOULD run at 2000)and can't seem to find a way to get it to the proper speed.
Does anyone have any idea's on how to help poor DY357LX?
Have anyone came across similar in the past?
The motherboard is a K7S5A PRO "MAINBOARD". The booklet claims
it can take upto a 2600+ so it's not a compatibilty issue.
Any you need any further info just ask.
Thanks in advance.

You have to remember AMD chips have higher clock cycles than their intel counterparts, so despite Mhz theyre running faster than it looks. A 2600+ is 1826 mhz I believe (166x11). 166 is the frequency which determines front side bus (2x this value, thus 2x166=333, I have my 2600+ set at 200x9.5) and megahertz as you see is the frequency times the multiplier. Also remember when playing with FSB lock your AGP frequency at 66 mhz as playing with bus can change that, and I dont think you want to fry your graphics card.
*Edit*
Your core frequency will also determine frequency of your ram. You want to set your ram in sync (same freq) as your FSB to obtain the best stability.
