<div class="IPBDescription">C&C please :D</div> Welly welly welly well then. While i've been sitting here horrendously slandering everyone's work, i've not really come up with any proof that i actually do anything artistic at all. Well, i do. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->
Basically i've been working on version 1.0 for my website (creativeblank.com - still coming) so i've been tossing a few design ideas around. This one actually made me follow through and it's pretty complete. It took about 3 hours in total, most of that was just tweaking, however.
One thing i'm pretty sure i will change is the size of the content area. While i do want it kept small, i think 280px is a little <i>too</i> small. Although, come to think of it, i did once make a site where the content area was about 200x50 before. I was big on minimalism at that time. Heh.
Anyway, here's the wip shot, feel free to C&C, but please keep it constructive.
*EDIT: Ignore bad jpeg compression, it's murdered the background. But i can't really afford to post this good quality, it's a bit big. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
*EDIT: Decreased the distance on the shadowing and saved it at a higher quality. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

Or a popup thing?
I love it <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->
Just I would try shrinking the shadow behind it, or sharpen the shadow.

What you see is what you get. No popups.

Like it though <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo--> The metal effect reminds me of the textures from the Jedi Knight games.
I wish i was that good at PS <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->
You consider it to be a waste of space, i consider it creative placement. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
Not every page must touch the borders, not all pages must be left aligned. This site is not designed to conforum to standard practices, creativeblank.com is my creative output, essentially, where i will endeavour to do something a little different. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

Also, why is it that far down? I use 1024 x 768 and have to scroll down halfway to see the main part.

I use 1240x1024 and it still requires scrolling. The main content will be opened in the iframe (or layers, i've not decided yet) so you'll only need to scroll down the one time.
Also, the menu doesn't use real words either, so it doesn't really matter if you can read them. I might look out for a new font though, i'm using it on my map too and people are complaining they can't read it.
e/ oh so you will have another space for content. in that case i guess it's ok i just have to squint to see it.
Design wise, I like it. The background shapes could be picked out more though. However, if you look at it usability wise, it's pretty bad. Small space to read the pages, don't really appeal to me. Also, if a page get's really wordy, having it all stuck on one small area might make some people really go meh.
As for site navigation, also difficult. The navigation doesn't really come out at you, it blends in too well with the design. Also, the text on the navigation is hard to read.
but i know better.
(i don't type much, me = lazy, still)

But as to everyone, i'm not ignoring your comments, just if i don't take it on board, don't be offended.
The bottom line of this site is style over content. It's my creative output, i'm not doing the designs to be easy to use, i'm making them to be pretty to look at. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
And before someone decides to jump in and say "Well if you're making websites it should be......" I don't care, i've been doing websites for too long now, i know what i need to do for clients, and it's that which makes me want to have a purely creative output as well.
