Here's a pic.

Edit: Crap, too small! Well I guess just right click and zoom in. Is there anyway to get rid of a pic?

This is to do with DirectSound.

Make sure you have nothing else like winamp open.

Also try turning off windows launch program sound and other sounds in windows. I had a problem with gamespy3D whereby my old sound card could only play one sound at once. The sound it played on launching a game would supress that game from having sound some of the time.

Also make sure your sound card can play more than one sound at a time (very old or some OnBoard cards don't).

Also try -nocdaudio in the commandline.

Richard nailed it, also, try updating to the newest DX, if you haven't already...

Also, you may wanna try dxdiag to make sure everything's werking...

Ok, I tried turning off WinAMP and KaZaA, but no good. I also tried putting -nocdaudio in the command line for Counter-Strike.

How do I turn off Window Launch Program sounds and other sounds?

Also, what does DX stand for?

Where do I find DXDiag?

to start DXdiag (a program for finding problems with DirectX) just execute "dxdiag" in the start-bar...

The only problem I have is in Sound it says: The file ES1371.VXD is not digitally signed, which means that it has not been tested by Microsoft's Windows Hardware Quality Labs. You may be able to get a signed driver from the manufacturer of the hardware device.

Uh, help please?

That shouldn't cause a problem. Have you tried to change between software-buffer and hardware-buffer? some cards doesn't support harware-buffer...

How do I change it?
• RamsesRamses Join Date: 2002-05-21 Member: 642Members
in the sound-tab there is a slider called something with max. harware blahblahblah (I've the german version, but it's the only slider there...). Just slide him to the left to deactivate Hardware-accelerator or to the right to enable it...

Ok. I'm confused and tired (it's 2:30 in the morning) where's the sound tab?
• RamsesRamses Join Date: 2002-05-21 Member: 642Members
It's a bit wrong to discuss this in the forums but...
Well, when you open DXdiag, you see at the top of the window something like this:

System | DirectX-files | Display | Sound | Music | ...

now select "Sound". There you will find the following:

Device Drivers
......... .............

DirectX-BlahBlah

some text  |-----==-------|

with |------=------| I mean the slider(?). Slide this slider to the left to disable Hardware-Acceleration.

Ok, the error doesn't come up anymore but how can you see if you are speaking?

Is there a way?
• richard_of_richardlandrichard_of_richardland Join Date: 2002-05-29 Member: 687Members
It'll come up and appear on the HUD. It should have done even with this error.

If you wanna test to see if your mike is working, use the console command:

voice_loopback 1

Only use this for troubleshooting though, sometimes the server lag is so bad that you're actually hearing an echo, but the pitch isn't distorted, so you may end up sounding liek a retard when your brain tries to compensate for the difference in what you say and what you hear...

Happened to me a few times....
