A Possible Themed Ns Map Pack

testing the waters....
I would like to know if anyone is interested in an ns map pack project. Basically my proposal is to build four or five ns maps, possibly as many co_ maps, and give them all a similar style. I think it's interesting that the eclipse theme evolved into players actually fighting in seperate locations of a complex. (one being eclipse, the other veil) This is kind of the idea that I had, but make it a group project instead of one person working through many similar appearing maps.

One of the advantages here is that a group could build out a truly huge complex/ship. In addition rooms could be taken from one map and used in another, giving the appearance that, if both doors were open, one would be able to move through from one to the other.

I don't really want to start any style work or layout design until a group gets formed. If anyone is interested just let me know.

Wouldn't mind helping out. I think the story behind maps and how they integrate into other maps is important too.

Well, since this seems to have sparked a bit of interest I guess i'll go ahead and see what we can start up. Anyone who wants to be involved in this please send me an email (please put "mapping project inquiry" as the subject line so I know what the message is) I'll be setting up a yahoo group to help coordinate the project if it grows beyond four or five people. I don't really see any reason why experience should limit anyone.

After we figure out who will be involved I think it might be best to have everyone brainstorm a bit on a style set, then we'll vote on which one to use. Backstory, layouts, and just about any other decision can probably be handled in an equally diplomatic fashion.

Any questions/comments/suggestions can be voiced either here or in email, I look forward to hearing from everyone.

BTW: Legionnaired, that screenshot absolutely pwns.

    Thanks for the compliment.

Just an idea. What if we were to plan out absolutely everything about a map, much as the ns_nancy crew did, then everyone does a chunk of that, making one huge, awesome starship. And, make it so that with a little modification, each chunk can be pulled out to make a co_ map?

That way, we have 4-5 co_maps with the same theme, and one absolutely secks-in-a-can ns_map.

    Just a thought.

Consider that style up there free game for this project, I wont have time for a while to get that opertational.

what'd really be a blast is if at some time in the future, NS has the ability to affect the next map in the mapcycle based on who pwned the last map played...

what was the word for this... ummmmmmmmmmm... oh, persistent maps or something like that?

it's sorta the same concept they wanted to do with TeamFortress2 way back in the day...

Reese, I'm in. Just tell me what style you want, get me a layout, and I'll whip something up.
