<div class="IPBDescription">How? PLEASE HELP ME! :(</div> I want to just play with my friends on my own UNDEDICATED server, but when I make one, it won't show up for them. Same thing happens when they try. Someone please please explain to me how I can make one! <!--emo&::asrifle::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/asrifle.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='asrifle.gif'><!--endemo--> <!--emo&::gorge::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/pudgy.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='pudgy.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Need a lot more information than that.

    But from the sounds of it, you probably use broadband.. and your connection is not direct to the modem. Maybe it's just something dumb, like the XP firewall (or any firewall) blocking specific ports, but...

    If you use broadband on a home network, or if you use DSL which often involves router+DSL modem configurations, it's very likely your server is being started on the inside IP. Which is only visible to people on the inside of the network.

    But I'm not sure.

    You can do some tricky packet forwarding or port-opening to make it work. Why you can't see their servers is questionable, though.

    Like I said, need more info. ;P

    Wrong forum, use a direct connection <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    This may not help but it helped me, find out your IP and tell your freinds the number, then have them type it in the "add sever" screen or if they know the console command have them link right to your sever via console.

    More likely, you haven't checked your listenserver.cfg, and sv_lan is set to 1.

    Make sure your friends aren't filtering out only dedicated servers or something dumb like that. If nothing helps you can connect directly to the server by typing connect ip:port in the console, usually the port is 27015, I don't think you have to type the port number if it is the default one.

    be sure to use the IP given by this website

    <a href='http://whatismyip.com/' target='_blank'>http://whatismyip.com/</a>

    That is your TRUE IP address, everytime I tried to give them my IP via the game console they can't connect, but with this they can <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Also make sure they haven't set any filters except for the game 'ns' or whatever you're playing <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Thats my guess right there <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
    Also, you know that when you choose to leave hl, everyone gets disced?

    Yeah, HL steam sets sv_lan to 1 by default.
    Though a dedicated server would run better for your freinds than an undedicated one, so if you've got access to more than one PC then this would be your best bet.
