The 81-year-old, who plays Saruman in the first two Lord Of The Rings films, says he was "shocked" and mystified by his exclusion from The Return Of The King - which hits cinemas worldwide next month - and has vowed to boycott the star-studded premieres.

Lee says, "The only reason I'm able to say this is because it was on the internet and has been for some days. I only heard recently.

"Someone has talked and it certainly wasn't me. Of course I am very shocked, that's all I can say.

"If you want to know why you would have to ask the company New Line or director Peter Jackson and his associates because I still don't really know why.

"I can't say any more because I signed a confidentiality agreement and I honored my word."

And after being asked if he planned to attend any of the premieres, Lee snapped back, "No, what's the point? What's the point of going? None at all."<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->

Geez, i can't comment on his character's inclusion in the books (Although i'm sure he's supposed to be there) but this guy is a legend, he at least deserves a damned explanation. That's so weak.

I believe the scene in question is when Gandalf and friends are outside of Isengard, and Gríma Wormtongue flings the 'crystal ball' at them, as well as when Saruman made his own ring and became Saruman of Many Colors.

    Both essential to the story.

I was surprised when the surplanted the first chap of the second book onto the first movie, and then cut out like a whole 100 pages from the second movie.

I was wondering how they'd get to fit that all into three hours. I suppose I've been answered...

but it still sucks, WTH they may as well cut off the last 100 pgs from Return of the King, make a fourth movie based on The Hobbit and put th last 100 pgs in that movie.

He doesn't look 81. I've heard people say that his character is
pretty much required in the final movie for the stroyline to properly
come together. I haven't read the book(s) so i honestly have no idea.

    UPDATE!
    ======
    I found this on <a href='http://dynamic5.gamespy.com/~extralife/index.php' target='_blank'>http://dynamic5.gamespy.com/~extralife/index.php</a>.

''Here's what Jackson said about cutting Lee out.

''We have decided to save the Saruman sequence for the DVD. It's a great little scene. 7 mins long. Chris is wonderful, as usual. Brad is in about 6 shots. It was a film maker decision - nothing to do with the studio.

The problem is that the sequence was originally shot for The Two Towers, as it is in the book. Since The Two Towers couldn't sustain a 7 min ''wrap'' after Helm's Deep, we thought it would be a good idea to save it for the beginning of the Return of the King. The trouble is, when we viewed various ROTK cuts over the last few weeks, it feels like the first scenes are wrapping last year's movie, instead of starting the new one.

We felt it got ROTK off to an uncertain beginning, since Saruman plays no role in the events of ROTK (we don't have the Scouring later, as the book does), yet we dwell in Isengard for quite a long time before our new story kicks off.''

Yeah, and remove bits and pieces everywhere, put every chapter multiple of 3 out, take the last 49 pages and remove them, include them in another movie that would explain the whole world.

And call it Silmarillion - Director's Version.

Of course, you realize you guys can't have the "perfect" LotR movie?

If you had everything you wanted, each movie would run 4 or 5 hours, be filled with minor things that don't matter TOO much.

HELL YEAH! Like... a made for T.V. movie. A series. Something worth it!

    I think Geminosity wants a mini-series like...

Steven Spielberg's Taken. The most boring thing because it's 20 hours.

Now Dune/ Children of Dune. That was a good mini-series. 6 hours, using the natural divides in the book as stopping points.

I think the NS community should band together and buy a movie theater so we could all jus chill out, watch movies all day, throw popcorn at each other, kiss girls in the back row, you know that kinda thing.

DuBers, there is one inherent flaw in your logic.

Most of the people here don't know what these things called girls are. They observe them but even the Kharaa are less mysterious.

The scouring of the Shire simply wouldn't work in the movie. The natural climax of the movie is the destruction of the Ring; spending another 30 minutes with a small fight scene in Hobbiton simply wouldn't work. That's why Jackson had to cut it out.

The Sauruman part does surprise me. I don't know how they're going to have the whole Pippin-Palantir part without Wormtongue throwing it down. Which makes me think that New Line Cinema are the ones to blame for this. I really can't see Jackson cutting Saruman out completly.

But then my second was "oh well. I haven't read the books anyway, so I won't know the difference anyway..."

    Ignorance is bliss. :P
