About the PAL thing, after reading some of the links within that link, it seems Nintendo made a couple of tweaks to the game before the European and Japanese versions were released. Specifically, the scan jumping isn't possible in the non-North American games. (Which I tried to use... did it once after 10 tries and got up top! Gonna hafta try it on a new file though!)

I loved Metroid Prime. There was a time when I got tired of it and quit for a week or so, then I picked up the controller and got my Plasma beam. That alone is worth is. I love the Pirate->ashes effect.
