You had onboard video? Wow. Congrats on your new upgrades, enjoy them. I would also suggest getting more ram.

256 SDRAM??? -> SDRAM??? OMG!!! Is it a hybrid mainboard? If yes, get more RAM and DDR type...
FX5600 -> *vomits*
P4 2.0 -> with SDRAM? Strange...

But I think what matters is that YOU are happy with it, these are just my personal thoughts.
But congrats for upgrading, even the smallest step forward brings you closer to the finish line ^^

Are you saying you had no Sound or Video cards, or they were integrated onto the motherboard?

Generally, I don't think you'd be able to do much of anything besides scroll around on a black and white windows screen without at least inegrated graphics...sound isn't quite as important.

How much did this new computer cost?

For the same price as a 5600 you could get a Radeon 9600, which is vastly superior. Just a tip
Oh and how on Earth did you live without a sound card?

I placed an order for an XP 2400+ and a fan today....
Suppose this is the right topic for that kinda thing.
For some odd reason the 2400+ is more expensive
than the 2600+ (which is faster!). Crazyness.

Well, Dell has a great motherboard I guess, cause I can do Q3 games at 10-40 fps on them. Even HL I only do 30-60.

This should get me to 100+ in both areas, and make Unreal 2 that I bought when it came out actually worth it(which I'll be getting the MP patch soon too, thats gonna kick ****. I'm also gonna grab UT 2k3 or 2k4(depending), I want 2k4, but will RO work with it?

And ya, I'm getting more RAM on my own dollar later in the year. This is my ONLY christmas present from my parents(most directly my mom, she had to fight dad to do this). It should be finished in about a month(The whole process, including EVERYTHING, all the way down to restoring what I want)

P4 2.0: Okay... (2.0 is fine)
Video: ...Yawn (older versions of FX have problems)
Sound: Ew (you dont really need a sound card, but if your getting one get a good one where you CAN tell a difference)
Case: Okay (may i recommend Xpcases.com)
Ram: ew? (Nowa days 512mb Ram is recommend and trust me, it IS better)

*Edit* Go find AIDA32(Enterprise) on google and find your Motherboard info..make SURE it fits in your new case.

Um....crack....don't smoke yourself.

Firstoff, its a tossup between ATi and NVidia in the graphics market. I like ATi, but in this case, the GeForce is better, from what I've heard(don't turn this into that kind of a thread)

And the sound? A audigy 2 is the best out at the moment. I have NO idea what your talking about, but you don't get better than that.

And the RAM has been hurt, badly. I know- I'm gonna save up 100 bucks, and get a TON more RAM. I'm hoping a gig, maybe a gig and a half.

Actually the 9500 Pro smokes the living hell out of the FX5600. The R9600 Pro is still faster, though it can't compare to an R9500 Pro.

And I'm going to be making the 64-bit leap pretty soon with any luck... going to be selling off my old Ath TBird 1.4GHz (That's AthXP 1600-1800+ for those who can't convert), and picking up an Ath64 3200+, with an ASUS K8V mobo and probably around 512MB of (registered?) DDR4000. I get the feeling it'll make just a *little* performance jump, especially moving from PC133.

Some weird sound card with weird name

If your computer is intended for gaming 512 MB is all you need. Your computer wont need 1 gig of RAM to play anygames, not even HL2.

What about D3? If I remember correctly, it REQUIRES 512 RAM, and reccomends 700.
