<div class="IPBDescription">ATI tournament and Jarheadz</div> This is my exact post from the constellation forums. I felt that since it directly affected everyone in the NS community it should be duplicated here. Please understand that I fully endorse the idea of opening the beta, and I understand the neccesity of doing so. I am worried though, that it will have serious reprecussions.

I made this point elsewhere but its being brushed over... Personally I agree with the plan to have a massive tournament, breathing some life into the NS clan scene. To do this on 2.1 either we need to wait a while after 2.1 is released (not reccomended) <b>OR</b> allow access to the playtest so clans are ready.
<span style='color:red'><b>Now here is my point, with 2.1 being a Jazheadz exclusive, ONLY Jarheadz servers can run the 2.1 beta servers (read the "aussie server" post...)</b>.</span> Does Jarheadz propose to offer MORE servers for the flood of clann0rz I see on the horizon? Probably not, given that they would have agreed to nothing of the sort and more importantly simply couldn't supply the server numbers required. So will the current servers fill up? Most definately. The problem? Well, Flay can't revoke the exclusivity with Jarheadz, as it would leave massive bad feeling towards the one (oops forgot ATI <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo--> my apologies) company good enough to support NS, thus we are trapped with a limited number of servers, while we anticipate a huge influx of new "testers".
<span style='color:white'><b>My solution: Leave the BETA as it is, a Jarheadz exclusive. AND leave the BETA constie/vet/playtester only. All new clann0rz get a new icon (a tournament one, perhaps a cup or similar), AND get access to the previous BETA build to the one being currently playtested by the vets/consties/playtesters. This would keep Jarheads exclusivity (hopefully they would be kind enough to recognise the neccesity of this tournament to NS), AND allow more beta servers so that clans have enough servers to practice on. Thus clann0rz can make private games to trial scrim on. Personally I think that is the best solution.</b></span>
I do think this is a serious problem if not handled correctly. Action needs to be taken soon. All the best - Tink<span style='color:green'><b>"</b></span>
I hope I am wrong about this. All the best - Tink

yes? I know. BUT clans need to play it BEFORE release, and according to NS.org, they will. Hence the problem is exactly as I stated it. - Tink
We're in the process of some big moves at the moment and will be supplying more servers very soon. Unfortunately, we're waiting for stuff to be finalised etc, and can't talk about it properly yet. But we *will* supply as much server capacity as the NS 2.1 beta requires.
In my capacity as an NS player:
AFAIK, the ATI tournament is *post* NS 2.1 release. I understand that people will want to get a head start on NS 2.1 so that they can have the same 'feel' for the tactics and gameplay of the game as the current tester base. The simple thing I would do, is to make the tournament VET clan only.
VET clans, are any active CAL clan and as has been announced recently, they are afforded automatic inclusion in the VET program so long as they are active (as far as I'm aware). If you're a VET, you can play NS 2.1 now... so I don't see the problem.
In the case of a clan not being a VET clan but still wishing to enter, then why not get all team members to donate to constellation and get into the beta that way? (Note: I make nothing from constellation donations, it goes on other more important bills, so I'm not trying to pimp it, just showing an alternative)
I'm not sure when the timing of the Competition is (Hambone?) But certainly I would expect there will be a grace period after the NS 2.1 release to give people a little breathing space to get used to it.
joev.
The upg from 1.4 to 2.0 was a long time coming. It was a huge change.
If you had a 2.0 tornament as soon as it was released it would be unfair
to all clans who hadnt been testing it for the past month.
There are many changes going into 2.1 that i think all clans need some time
to play with. It took me weeks to get used to ns 2.0 especially all the discrete
map changes. I think the beta should be made public for the tournament to be fair,
it would also help with playtest feedback.
